Prepending the article title into URL

So I'm contemplating creating a wordpress site with multiple posts going after multiple keywords (within one niche) rather than making multiple sites for each keyword. I know I can append the article title to the URL (www[.]mysite[.]com/article-title), but what about prepending (article-title.mysite[.]com)? I realize I may be using the wrong verbage here, and I apologize. I wouldn't need to purchase multiple domain names to do this would I? And correct me if I'm wrong, but doing something like this would cause google to see this as an entirely different site right?

  • What you're talking about is called 'subdomains'

    Subdomains are just different 'parts' of a single domain, so Google still sees it all as a single site. They're easy to set up with your domain registrar or webhost.
  • Yes, the big G would see it as a different site.

    But there's no easy way to do what you're wanting to do. I suppose you might be able to do it with some relatively complicated rewrites, but honestly it's probably not worth the headache.

  • Thanks for the info guys! I've done some PHP programming, but I hardly ever touch the .htaccess file (which I suppose will have something to do with this). This at least gets me pointed in the right direction. Now I just need to make the call on whether or not it's worth it.
  • It would be interesting to hear how that works out from a SEO point of view but bear in mind that heavily keyworded subdomains tend to look very spammy on the whole, I am not really sure it's a good idea.
