I really need an answer if anyone can provide one.

I have some mass mail/newsletter software I am getting ready to market. However, I need a good mail proxy server. I am looking using a VPS set up for my proxy. Has anyone used the VPS before and how well does it work?

    hi,

i own a hosting company, so i can give good advice on this.

sending mass mail through your own server is NEVER a good idea. this is because most hosts put a cap on the amount of email u can send per day from the server, even if it's a VPS or dedicated. this is because the ISP's themselves do not like bulk email.

this is the reason why it's always better to use aweber or icontact when doing mass email - simply because they have special relationships with ISP's and can of course send out your mail with no problems, 98% delivery rate, and no chance of your ISP or hosting company shutting down your blast.

i would suggest using SMTP.com as your mail server if you need to send out more than 1,000 emails per day. or something like that, but i think they are the cheapest around for bulk mail.

    hope this helps!

SORRY LOL, i just re-read your post and realized you said "marketing" the mass mail software.... i thought you meant you were to be using it.

I think however, the SMTP.com would still be a good idea if you are able to use an outside SMTP server with this software.

SMTP is much better way to send mail than through a proxy server. This is because SMTP is secure and traceable etc.

That being said, you would have to have a really good deal setup with your ISP or basically a business account with them to get fast bandwidth and special treatment etc.

Anyway, sorry I missed the point of your question, but I would say try to avoid proxy as much as possible, it is not a good idea to use to build a business, it's more useful when doing black hat stuff u know?

  • Yes..The vps do have a anti-spam policy. I was thinking putting the terms and conditions of the software. 1-No spamming 2-Clean E-mail Lists. 3-Must use a cloaked link for advertising. And So On

Critsend looks like a great relay site. However, by using them it would cost $1.0 per thousand to send. I am selling a software and have no control over the amount of email being sent per day. Plus you have to order a package before you send e-mails. I can't see how I could make this work for software.

I had wanted to sell this software cheap that is why there are no frills in it.

    Any other ides?

    I really appreciate the help

Well if you are selling just the software, for cheap, then you could just provide a hosted server with it and then control on the server how much emails can be sent etc. This would amount to you selling hosting, with software attached if that makes any sense.
