Can someone help me find my History file?

I know there's supposed to be a history file on your computer that shows all the activity you've done over a period of time.

I'm desperately searching for some images that I created a few weeks back and am not having any success. It's crucial that I find them, or I'll have to redo hours of work.

Will the history file or some other feature of Windows XP Pro provide me with a link to where those image files might be?

    Look in your IE history. There should be a section called Computer which will show you all the files you have looked at for that period. This is as long as you haven't cleared your history in the IE browser.

      Thanks Johnny,

      The browser history won't help because I wasn't using the internet for any of this.

      I forgot about that Recent Documents feature because I never use it. Unfortunately, I've done too much additional work since I created the missing files so it's not listed in there. Geez, and I got all excited for a minute.

      But you know when the cops confiscate your computer to see your history? They go beyond that little 'recent documents' link. And I know I've come across that history thing before - maybe on my old computer. This newer Windows has obscured access to those files unless you know where to look.

      I checked in Control Panel for 'system' but it didn't show much.

      So I'm still looking. It's really bizarre that I have lost these images. My Windows Search feature won't find them either. I've tried all the extensions. Now I'm worried that maybe my computer zapped the folder. It's been acting a little odd lately.

    Sylvia, IE is tied into Windows and it does track recent documents you look at outside of IE. Give it a try and check just in case. That is what the "Computer" section in the IE history is for. It tracks all recent documents you look at anywhere on your computer, not just inside of IE.

    Open IE and you should see a yellow star and the Word Favorites. If you click that it will open up a section that says: Favorites, Feed, History.

    If you click on the History tab it will show your IE history. You then should see a list of each day of the last week going back to Sunday, then a weekly listing for beyond that.

    Click on any of those and look at the history it pulls up. You should see one entry that that says "Computer." If you click that it will show all documents you have opened up on your computer for that day or week.

      Fantastic feature. I didn't realize IE had that. Never really looked at the history that closely. Sadly, it only goes back 2 weeks. I think it was close to 3 weeks when I did them.

      The good news is that I just learned something.

      Looks like I'm going to have to do them all over again since they seem to have just ~ vanished ~.
