i ask this question on behalf of a friend

he is involved with a website that has expired
when i whois it is coming up with the following:
Expiration Date:15-Dec-2011 07:20:28 UTC
Sponsoring Registrar:eNom, Inc. (R39-LROR)
Status:HOLD
StatusENDING DELETE RESTORABLE

the person who looked after the website said it will now cost a lot of money to register the domain, the usual $10 renewal fee and then some.

Is this true?
