How to set read more with wordpress?

I know this might be a very primitive question however this has been something someone asked me about.

For the post page how do you set the read more options. I tried with the settings and reading and then summary but it doesn't seem to reflect any changes.

The 4th button from the right on the tool bar in the visual view is the 'More' button.

Place your cursor in the article where you want to break it and click that button. That will insert the 'more' tag, which will cause only the part of the article before that point to appear on the posts page.

The full article will appear on the single post page.

You can also try inserting an except in the except box bellow. However only some themes support excerpts.
