Question For PHP Programmers

Hey Guys

Can you give me a ballpark of how many hours it should take a competent programmer to create a plugin:
Lets say the plugin uses your wp-posts title, description and URL to update your twitter account every time a new post is published?

Thanks
Theo

  • You mean something like this?

    www.twitterupdater.com

  • Yea, thanks guys.
But i'm thinking of a far more comprehensive plugin, i just need to test the programmer with a simple task, RE: how many hours to create a simple plugin?

    • The time depends on if he/she is familiar with Twitter's API. Myself, I could do what you want in less than an hour - but I have all the necessary libraries set up and ready to go. For someone who hasn't used the API and is not familiar with Twitter, it could take 5 or 6 or more to set it up and test it.

Why don't you just get the programmer to give you an estimate for creating what you actually want, then shop it around a little if you don't trust their estimate?

  • Thanks Steve
    I thinks that's what i'll do.
    Cheers
  • Wow nice plugin. I will use it too
  • dlvr.it is nice too, no load on your server, just pulls RSS every few minutes and posts on your Twitter/Facebook/Etc. It's not a plugin though.

I have tried the WP-To-Twitter (search wordpress.org) plugin and was quite good, you might wanna check that out.
