How to set macros in XP?

I know this is a pretty basic matter but I don't see anywhere else to post it. And, believe me, I've googled this a number of times and all I get are answers that are irrelevant or don't work.

How do I program "macros". As I understand it, macros are single key or multi-key sequences that enter email addresses, urls and other frequently used words and phrases.

I have a long url and email address which I sometimes enter dozens of times a day.The finger exercise is great but I'm a bit burned out on it.

I know there's a simple way to do this in XP and I don't know why I can't figure it out.

Macros aren't built-in to XP.
What email program are you trying to do this in?

You might try the FireFox addon iMacros - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/fir...s-for-firefox/

Hi David - First, I think you're using a restricted definition of macro. It's more about mapping a set of instructions (in your case keystrokes) down into one or at least much fewer instructions.

But that aside, I'm surprised that your e-mail program doesn't have some sort of auto-complete for addresses. I would consider switching to something else.

My suggestion for a macro-creation utility is the very powerful AutoHotKey. It's got a learning curve, but what it can do as far as macros go is limited only by your imagination.
