Do I need a macro for this?

I have wasted a lot of time trying to search out help in Word (2003) for this but can't get my brain wrapped around it so thought I would ask here.

This is what I would like to be able to have happen:

When I type a new email or respond to one recieved in Microsoft Outook, I would like for my margins to be set much wider for me automatically. Is this possible automatically?

As it is now, I am manually highlighting my response and sliding the 'thingy' over to about 6 or 7 on the ruler to line it up nicely with my signature.

There is probably a setting but I have not found it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Second question:

Want to add a search function to my self-hosted WordPress blog that would allow a person to search the entire blog for a word or phrase.

Have had plugin issues lately that have caused many errors and recently got them fixed, so wanted recommendations.

  • This can be accomplished if you setup Outlook to use Word as your email editor.

    Options, third tab over, first two tickboxes.

  • I tried the code on Dave Taylor's site, but am not doing something right...as all I can get it to produce is a Google search.

    I only want a site search of my blog, that's it, no other options. Simple search field, submit button and settings to search my entire site, not Google.

    Will keep looking.

    As far as the settings for the email editor, did that but still am clueless as to how to do a macro.

    Putting this on the back burner, however, as have more pressing things today.

  • In Firefox Dave's code was not showing up properly, but in IE it was.

    I misunderstood what this code was going to do. I did not want the person taken off my site to a Google search results even if the results were all for my site......wanted to stay on site.

    I guess that requires a lot more complicated code.

    I'll check into it later.

  • Hi Carol - so Google Site Search isn't free, but Google Custom Search Engine is free, but it includes Adsense ads (which you get paid on). And yes, it would exist on your site; it's just 'powered by' Google.

    Here's a good jumping off point if you want to learn more about CSE.

    You could also just use the built-in search that WordPress has. Does that not work for you?

  • The built-in WP search feature doesn't seem to be working for me. Tried to add that widget to the side bar, and it doesn't show up.

    I am revealing how *clueless* I am to programming...but wanted a feature that would take visitors DIRECTLY to the word on the page (on my blog) that ranks highest in importance when searching for a particular keyword, then could choose "next" for next in importance, etc.

    I am spending a LOT of time responding to emails directing my subscribers to certain blog posts that would answer the question they have instead of me repeating everything in an email. I have tried to encourage them to use the category search, but my categories are disorganized...need to go in and clean that up.

    Just didn't want to go to a Google search results page, but strictly keep the visitor on site.

    Maybe this is not even feasible, but I have the perfect scenario in my mind.

    • So that's really strange that the WP search feature isn't working. Perhaps it's just the widget that's not working. Here's another way to verify whether or not it works: type this sort of URL directly into your browser: http://yourdomain.com/?s=keyword. Obviously, replace 'yourdomain' and 'keyword' with real data.

      So if I'm understanding you correctly, this is a tough thing to do, with a significant amount of overhead in terms of programming, HTML produced and server load. I've never seen this on any site, even huge ones. About the only thing that I have seen is highlighting of keywords on pages, and even that is only done rarely.

      Yup, that's exactly how the Google CSE would work. It's all happens within your site. For an example, visit one of my sites and type in a search. The Google 'magic' is just Google's code referring to their index of your site to spit back results to your viewers.
