Oh man do I need help!

Okay so I'm doing the wordpress thing by myself - can't really get anyone to help me.

I installed wordpress in a "wordpress" directory on my site, however, I want all the links to be in the root directory - is there an easy way to change this without having to reinstall wordpress in the root directory?

I tried setting up the permalinks to be in the root directory but I guess by default it ads "wordpress" to the link name and all the links are in there. I just want it to be mysite/page.html or whatever rather than mysite/wordpress/page.html

Help?

    Hello ReikiGirl,
that's a common problem. Fortunately, wordress have a good help page for that and it's not too involved.
    You can see it here:

Let me know if you get stuck.

    Good luck

Okay - so it's probably best to just create the site as I am creating it, and then move everything when it's finished - so I don't mess anything up that's already on the site currently.

Is there a plugin LIKE total widget control that doesn't cost money?

I am willing to pay the 20.00 if there is nothing like it, but I read some reviews that weren't great.

I'm not familiar with that widget but I don't see the point of adding content and then moving it. It's best to get it over with.
I would export the pages (under tools) and rebuild (which only takes a couple of minutes under cpanel) if there isn't much content already and depends how much customisation you have made.
... I'm guessing you were put off by the wordpress help page?

I read the wordpress page, and I got that - I'm sure I will be able to successfully move it however with widget I'm looking for would make it so that I could have different widgets on individual pages, so all of the content is always relevant to the page that the person is on?

So, say I have a profile page of with Kelly's contact info - I'd like to put some similiar sales people, or maybe kelly wants to have her own links on her individual profile page - I'd like to be able to do that per profile.

          Feel me Iggy? =)

Hi Reikkigirl, sorry, not only are we on different time zones but my broadband has failed and I'm doing battle with the ISP to get it fixed. I'm lashed up on a dongle at the moment but can only get a signal in the garden!

Firstly, Steve found an excellent solution for you there, it used to be a bit more difficult before Wp3.0 but that's nice and simple and will keep your permalinks intact.
Secondly, I have never tried to do what you ask with the individual pages so I did a little research and found a plugin called 'WP Page Widget' which seems to fit the bill. Here's the link: WordPress › WP Page Widget « WordPress Plugins
I'm not in a position to test it for you I'm afraid, working on a nasty old laptop in the garden with slow connection...

It's okay Iggster - I'd rather be enjoying your garden than typing on here - but work needs to be done!

I downloaded the widget and I'll try it soon, but 1 person reports that it's broken.

Unfortunately I need an additional sidebar to use this - and well - I'm not really ready for all that - am I?

I'm intrigued by this problem but without seeing exactly what you need, I can only take a shot in the dark.
Could this be what you need:

I'll take your shots in the dark over my shots in the dark - and I'll check it out. Seems right though?

I'm gettin burned outttt on wordpress!

It's just taking forever to redesign this website and blah. I've always designed in HTML using photoshop, fireworks, dreamweaver - etc. The page I'm stuck on (which I need about 50 of them) is this widget one. So I appreciate your help more than you know! This is just one small component that I've struggled with, the rest I've got down I think.

This solution is way better - if I can get it all figured out.

And I haven't tried it yet, but this seems perfect - you can customize the sidebars based on the "authors" - that's exactly what I Needed, Each author to have their own sidebar.

Sometimes the wording is just different - now I know to refer to the individual people as authors! =)

Is there like a limit to how many widgets one should use?

I'm not sure if creating the sidebars is the best option for me - at least not the way I'm seeing it at the moment (which usually is crooked) but I'd have to create like 50 sidebars I think? Isn't some of this going to slow the site down?

What EXACTLY are you trying to do? You don't want to create 50 sidebars, and there's no reason why you should create 50 sidebars. Yes, it will slow the site down. And no, there's no limit to the number of widgets you should use, but every one you add creates some overhead.

What I'm trying to do is design a page for each author - each author I want to be able to customize what shows on their sidebar.

there wouldn't be 50 sidebars on one page, but each page would be assigned it's own sidebar - however I'm a little slow on using these freeking widgets (hence my being here) and this is what I get.

***You can assign specific sidebars to this post, just select a sidebar and the default one will be replaced, if it is available on your template.
There are not replaceable sidebars selected. You can define what sidebar will be able for replacement in the Custom Sidebar configurations page.***

I can make the sidebar using this widget - I can add widgets to it - but I don't know how to make it show on the authors page.

        ****** EDIT

Hot diggity damn, I figured out how to make them show!!!!!
