Your Best Tutorial for adding a Tinymce button to Wordpress?

Dearest Programmers,

I am beneath you. I am now bowing before you on my knees. I am looking for the wisdom of the almighty programming guru.

I need a button. It is a simple button to show up on my editor in wordpress.

It just needs to pop in a shortcode when I press it.

I could use 2 of these actually, but will attack what should be the easier solution first.

I have a plugin I'm using, which allows me to use a shortcode. I don't want to have to remember how to format that shortcode every time I want to put it in a post.

So, can you tell me - the cut and paste girl - how/what/where is the easiest way for me to make this happen?

What kinds of files do I need to put and where?

I have been looking - trust me when I say I can google - but I am left feeling like this should be more simple to do then then explanations I find tell me.

I guess I need some kind of mini image to show as the button. I can fudge that if I have the dimensions of the graphic and the best extension. Need to know where that image should go as well.

Who will be my hero?

  • the reason most tuts seem crazy is beacuse the api for registering buttons is very unorganised.

you need a few different files, all doing different things, so its not quite as simple as a copy and paste.

i can help you out if you like, then you can view the code to see how it works (this is how i find it easiest to learn)

if you send me the plugin files and what the shortcode is i can do it for you (plus the image needed for the button 24px x 24px)

    pm me the details
