Localization question...

Hi everybody,
I'm new here and am also a newbie trying to create a website. I have someone from the U.S. who is helping me (I'm an American living in France) and he has suggested I used a Wordpress Theme for my website/blog. The question I have is : the "tool bar" used in Wordpress Themes are all in English (such as "About", "Buy" "Home" etc) and I want to know if I can EASILY change these into French, so that it looks professional. I asked the people at Wordpress and she said no, I would have to do it myself... but I don't know how to and my helper in the U.S. doesn't seem to understand what I'm talking about!
Has anybody created websites in other languages besides English and know how to help? Before I get the Wordpress theme, I want to make sure it's usable for me!
Thanks! Anne in France

Usually, you would need a language file where the words to be translated are defined. The words will then have to be placed in the templates as variables instead of actual hard-coded text. You may need a programmer to do this for you.
