Images Broken After Restore Of BackUp

Hi Warriors,

I just did an overhaul of my site by downloading via EZPZ plugin and later uploading same to a newly installed wordpress site with a new theme.

All my pictures/images are now broken and some social media buttons i.e twitmeme, facebook share and stumbleupon share, are equally not in place.

I have re-uploaded two pictures on one of my posts to the new site/theme and it is showing properly but i wonder whether there is no other way to go about rectifying this broken images as the other option of manually removing and re-inserting new images is quite tedious given that my site has over 100 posts.

Kindly advise.

Thanks.

Presumeably all your images are in a few directories? They probably are so redownload them from the original site using a different ftp program and reupload them to the new site. Sometimes you can download an image and reupload them in the wrong format. On most ftp programs you can leave the upload file format as automatic but sometimes you need to upload images in either Ascii or Binary format. Other than that make sure your image directories don't need a certain permission for them to work. Check the original directory permissions.

There might be path issues though. You should post the url of your site so we can take a look.

    Thanks Mkj for your comment.

Unfortunately, my original site, from which i downloaded the entire blog (content, images etc) is already taken down and replaced by this new one which is also a new theme. What again puzzles me is why twitter, facebook and stumbleupon buttons are not showing while google buzz is showing, despite the fact that the plugins are activated. The "facebook send button" you see, had its code manually inserted by me in each blog post.

My site url is Profitable Business Ideas

As you will see, my last blog post which is the first featured on the home page is the one i said i manually re-uploaded the images i earlier used, into, all over again. As you go to other posts, you will see that the images in each post is not showing.

You downloaded the entire blog? Did you make sure you downloaded the htaccess file as well?

The first image I came across that was not displaying was this one:

      http://www.homebiz-supermarket.com/w...nd-button.jpeg

It doesn't seem to be on your server.

The 2nd image was this one:

      http://homebiz-supermarket.com/image...g-websites.jpg

This above was found on this url:

      http://www.homebiz-supermarket.com/i...g-websites.jpg

You get a server error if you try and load http://homebiz without the www part, which is why I am wondering about the htaccess file. You can rectify the above by certain htaccess commands so that all http://homebiz requests are automatically sent to http://www.homebiz instead.

By the looks of it you will have to work through the entire site to see what images are missing or whether or not the paths are wrong and fix them individually. I will post some code about sorting out the htaccess problem soon.

Here is the code generated from this page:

        Free .htaccess Redirect Generator

        //Rewrite to www
        Options +FollowSymLinks
        RewriteEngine on
        RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^homebiz-supermarket.com/[nc]
        RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.homebiz-supermarket.com//$1 [r=301,nc]

The above placed in a htaccess file will sort out the server error when someone attempts to load up http://homebiz. They will be redirected to http://www.homebiz. It should also sort out any image problem that you have when the www part is missing from the image source url.

Since i have the redirect i explained in place, it may amount to a duplication putting this in place again. What do you think? Have you tried out the two links i inserted in the previous post and seen that they both lead to the www. version?

Should the redirect from non www. version to www. version solve the image problem when the www part is missing from the image source url, as it does not seem to solve it in this case.

Bit of an odd problem. The redirect you have in place doesn't seem to work for image files. Only thing you can do really is work through the site and fix each image file individually or you might end up causing more problems than it is worth by messing with the htaccess file as well. There can't be that many images causing problems can there? Sorry I can't be of more help.

              Thank you Mkj,

As a last resort, i will have to do just that. Just trying to see if i can get a short cut. But there are a lot of images (over 200) as there are over 100 blog posts with an average of 2 images per post.

Anyway, thanks again for your time.

That is quite strange because i have a redirect in place through my control panel with hostgator (my web host) and it is working fine from my end here. I have checked multiple times and http://homebiz-supermarket(dot)com redirects to http://www.homebiz-supermarket(dot)com

You can try clicking on the links i have above to confirm.

It looks like when you did the backup it didn't copy the images.

I.e. http://www.homebiz-supermarket.com/p...nd-button.jpeg is called on your homepage, but that image doesn't exist.

Check through you wp-content/uploaded folder and see if it copied any of your old images over. Even if it did, it's possible it stored them in the wrong location.

      Thanks Christian.

Let me quickly explain what i did so that you can advise if it was right or not.

I used the EZPZ One Click Backup plugin to do a backup unto my harddrive and i unzipped the zip file, getting 3 files as folows:

      EZPZ_DB.SQL
      EZPZ_profitable-business-ideas.TGZ
      EZPZ_RESTORE.PHP

I then uploaded the 3 to my homebiz-supermarket.com/wp-content/uploads/ folder.

Actually, i had first used the phpMyAdmin in my hostgator control panel to import only the EZPZ_DB.SQL but when nothing was visible on my site(including content), though i had a success report, i followed up with the above upload via ftp.

Hmm....maybe it's worth while just moving it manually instead of using a plugin?

    It's pretty easy to do:

    1) Zip all the files and upload to your server

    2) Dump your mysql database and upload to your server

    3) Edit your wp-config.php to use the new database

    4) Login to WP and re-save your permalink structure (even if you don't change anything, you need to re-save it after moving the site around)
