Stealing affiliate sales

Hi everyone,
I have heard that its possible for someone to hijack affiliate sales. Is this true? If so how can one prevent that? Is there a bit of software or something available that one can use to make sure that affiliate links are safe?
I appreciate any good advice.
Best regards,

    LifestyleMaverick,

No. How could someone possibly "hijack" your affiliate sales? Nobody can interfere with a visitor clicking on your affiliate links, unless they've gotten access to your website or something.

Actually its pretty easy depending on the network. If they credit the sale to the most recent cookie its pretty easy for an unethical marketer to steal commissions with CPV ads.

Thanks guys. The article I read about the hijacking of affiliate sales was in regards to Clickbank where apparantly it IS the latest cookie that is credited with the sale.
Headfirst, is there any way to prevent this cookie theft?

Unfortunately it is very easy to steal some1´s affiliate commision (see cookie stuffing) - and no: I dont think there is a way to prevent this - and i cant iamgine how some1 could prevent it.

Luckily, the affiliate networks are very very aware of this problem and have some real good detection scripts to find out who is cookie stuffing. Once they see something suspicious, they will ban the person in question immediatly.

I happened across a video on YouTube..and watched a guy do it in like 2 minutes with some hi-jacker software. He literally copied the entire site, tweaked the payment info, and bragged about how easy it is.

If anyone knows if this can actually be done, I'd like to know how to prevent it as well.

(I'll try to find it...and post a link)

Hence another good reason to be the vendor, not the affiliate.

All kidding aside, is there really any way to know?

I've been wanting a way to deliver (future) affiliates credit without the cookie, once I get all the pieces in place.

I guess it would be similar to creating a hop link, or specific I.P. identifier to the affiliate promoting the product. (-I simply do not trust cookies, as I personally clear mine on exit...as does anyone I know)

And half the time, I'm using a dynamic I.P. so even that option seems null.
