Looking for a software designer that can take an idea and run with it.
Non-disclosure/Non-compete agreement must be signed first.
Who knows of someone or should this be placed on Elance or some
place like that?

    • Hi,

Pls check Odesk. eleance or any other freelancer sites
  • One of the issues is that without direction your going to have trouble. When you say "Run with it" it seams to imply that they know what you want built.

When hiring a programmer/developer you really need to give them very specific instructions on how you want it to work or what comes back "Finished" could be of no use to you at all.

By "Run with it" are you meaning that you will pay them per hour to work on whatever they like.....?

I would suggest that what might suit you is someone with a similar background and do a joint venture with them where they do the programming of what you want, then you do the promotion.

Not all programmers are interested in Internet marketing.

  • What ever you do,make sure that the person you award the job has good feedback and references. I've learnt a terrible lesson myself.

    Just a thought!

  • You can easily find a good and reliable designer at odesk.com try it..
Many freelancer working as designer, you can look based on their feedback and hours working being a designer..In that case you can see weather it is a professional one..
    That's only an adviced..
  • I think odesk is best for this - just put up a job offer and check out the applicants profiles. If they are no good then remove the job offer

  • Well that message above says it all, in a way that wasn't intended.

I've had limited success with off loading some mirror things to oDesk .. most of the time the language barrier made things more difficult. I've also had a few clients have a huge problem with programmers found on freelance sites, which they were forced to use because I was busy, and end up need me to rescue them - costing them double.

I'm not doing this as an ad for myself, but the point it is --- be careful and expect to deal with potential hardships when using freelance workers. One of the bigger issues I've had too is workers simply disappearing. This can be lessoned if you hire them directly.
  • GOOD coders don't come cheap, that's for sure. Here in the US, companies are paying 40-180k / year for coders.
  • If you have free time then it is better to learn web design yourself because if you have knowledge of web design then you can make it yourself and it will make more better than hired web designer.
  • Personally I would stay away from the overseas outsourced workplaces like elance, scriptlance, etc unless you have a very detailed structure for them to follow. Otherwise they will be looking for shortcuts and the quickest way to get paid. If you don't really know what you want more likely you will be taken for a ride.

If you want someone to build ideas on top of yours then get local, find groups in your area, network, and find people in your area that you can meet in person. Give this person equity/partnership in the business and grow from there.
  • I agree with website design. Stay away from outsourcing. Look for someone in your area.

    • Just remember you get what you pay for. You want someone experienced enough to help you pull the requirements from your "ideas" and people like that don't come cheap.

I looked at some of the freelance sites and I wouldn't get out of bed for what they want to pay.
