Wordpress redirects to 404 error page after login... Any help?

Hey,

I was trying to do a new WP manual install on my hosting. I uploaded all the files into a directory but, when I checked it, the directory was empty. So, I thought I must've uploaded it into some other directory by mistake (although I can't seem to find where).

So, I uploaded all the files into the required directory again and after running the install blah.. blah.. I find that I can't login to the Dashboard. I mean, it logs in but when I click Dashboard from the bar on the top, it redirects me to a 404 Error Page. Then when I tried logging into my main domain, same thing. I tried disabling the plugins (directory) but didn't work. This is happening to all the domains on my hosting account, btw.

Anybody know how to fix this? Is this a host thing or is Wordpress causing the problem. I tried searching for the problem, there are a lot of accounts of this happening, but no solution anywhere.

Plus, just out of curiosity, is the 'www' directory in your hosting account supposed to have wordpress files in it?

Thanks,
Sumit.

The only files that should have wordpress files inside them should be your public html folder. If you've repeatedly tried to fix the solution your best bet would be to re-install and make sure all the WP files have uploaded correctly.

Another solution if you don't want to manually do it download Filezilla and you can just drop or drag or put the wp file into a .zip format and upload it via cPanel and right-click > extract.

      Thank You for the reply.

I'm not really sure if a re-install would fix this. Because, this has affected all the domains on my hosting. None of them have anything to do with the other. Besides, I had just done a fresh install just before the problem occurred.

If it is happening to all domains on your hosting then you have probably overwritten some files in a root directory.

Personally, I would contact your hosting support and ask them nicely to sort it out for you.

Without access to your file structure etc, I don't think anyone can help too much.

    Sorry!
