How To Create Those "Are U Sure U Want To Exit" Windows?

Hi,

I'm sure many have seen those windows that jump up when you try to exit a site where it writes "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page? .....Press ok or cancel"

What are these called?

And how do I create them?

Many thanks!

They are called "Exit Popups" and you can search for lots of ideas to create them - both free and paid . . .

action popup is an excellent one for wordpress and others. It is easy to setup in WP, with a normal site, pretty easy as well.

pop up domination is a popular one, but that is a paid version. If you want an option for an exit popup, and are looking for a really great theme, then there is optimize press, Authority Pro 2.0 and Profits theme. These are all premium themes that have squeeze page templates, landing page templates, exit pops built in. Or I believe that wordpress has some free plugins also. Hope this helps

Usually called exit pop ups. You can search for code online to make one or you can purchase a program that generates code.

I use a program called "Ultimate Exit Popup" that I downloaded off of tradebit. It costed like $1 or something but it works great.

If you need one for wordpress, search around. I've seen some WSO offering wordpress plugins for this purpose.

    Just one question ...

Why the hell would anyone want one of those things in the first place?

I have actually seen sites (Mostly sales pages) that have three or four of those windows pop up one after the other until your mouse jumps out of your hand and off the desktop.

If you haven't captured the readers attention with your initial offering, the chances are that you won't fair much better by badgering him with aggravating popups when he is trying to leave.

The solution, of course, is to tweak your sales copy until it is producing.

Sorry for the small rant - But those things just bug me...

Kinda like drivers who won't dim their headlights when they're behind you.

Cause they work! I did some solid testing on a number of my pages and hands down they won every time. So that might be one reason...to test it and see if it works for the OP. I was told by countless people at IM conferences "ughh I can't stand those things" and I told them I just didn't care what the heck they thought cause THEY were NOT my customer. So as much as you might not like something, it doesn't matter if it works for that page and that market.

Interesting, Jenn and I have heard that rebuttal used many times to support a variety of viewpoints.

Honestly, I have never used one of those scripts so, I can only speak from the website visitor's point of view.

Could you be a little more specific? How do they work? Did you make any sales by directing the visitor to another related offer or did you change tactics entirely and send them to something different?

I once thought they might be useful in list building by offering a "free" PDF or something - but, that could be added to your initial sales page just as easily.

Your testing could be very useful indeed.

It is funny that we all get bugged by them, but they work.

It's like people who get irritated when a marketer emails them every day with an aff. link. If you aren't un-subscribing, the guy thinks you still want to keep getting his stuff!
(No I don't do that, but I just know that it does happen!)

I'm sure it performs differently given the niche and definitely the copy/execution which you use with it. Anything beyond two layers is a bit asinine IMO and will just tick off anyone; but I've seen it before unfortunately.

I've never used one before but I'm about to launch a new product and figured I'd give a one layer exit pop up a shot at least, offering a few bucks knocked off the price to see if it gives the customer that extra necessary push. I'm using Optimize Press for the sales page and will prolly give its exit pop up feature a try.

If you're using WordPress, check my sig for the plugin.

They work very well, by the way.

I also can't stand them, when that thing stops me in my tracks I'm sure never to return to that page.

On the flip side, it seems they actually work, so that's ok, but I wouldn't recommend more than one.

While I don't even like one of the pop up's coming up when I try to leave, as long as it's just one. More then that and I am getting ticked. lol
