QR code generator question.

For those of you who have smartphones. What is the format of the data that get your smartphone to say add contact info from a scanned code to your address book? Is there special mark up of the data to get your phone to perform certain actions ? I can already generate the qr codes, just need to know what format the data should be in.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure it's only text. It's your phone app that detects links, contacts, addresses etc. but it does not have to.

Hey, do you know how to generate QR codes on the fly on your website? Not the "QR code generator" available on internet. I mean on your own site.
