Ethical email collection? Is this a custom script?

Hi, i was on FB the other day, and i liked a video starring a very popular internet marketer, and no sooner had i 'liked' the video, I got an email from the creator saying thanks for liking the post. There are a few things really I wanted to ask:

How ethical is it to take email addresses that werent provided in that instance and does 'liking' something constitute an opt-in?

And

Is this custom code, what would I need to search to learn more about the technique? Ive tried a few things, but only videos teaching how to harvest millions of emails from facebook show up.

If i can figure it out, it would fit in perfectly into a new system I'm designing at the moment.

    Did you get email from Facebook or actual creator?

    I don't think facebook reveals your emails...Zuckerberg doesn't stoop that low...

    chances are you were on his list somewhere or he recognized you?


    I don't think there is a way to pull emails from social network site unless that email is listed on profile but even then it should be "imaged" (non-text) to protect against spam. (even those email text images can be easily converted to plain-text with OCR)

      It was from the creator. I didn't think it was 'possible' either, but there you go. It was actually a video where FK was giving an informal speech in an IM party or something.

      Literally, as soon as I liked it, and the video started, I got an email from the video creator. Hmmm, I dunno. I may have to have another look. Either that, or it was an auto responder- type thing to send automatically to new likers on the page.

        Do you have email in your profile?

        Are you sure email came from the video owner to your *personal* email address??

        It could have been Facebook emailing you..
