Where can I find Cheap Private Domains?

Hi guys,

I am trying to find a substitute to Godaddy, as I have seen much cheaper prices, and when buying a fair amount of domains it can get quite costly in the longrun.

Do any of you know of any recommendable places? .com domain no more than 5 USD and preferably with good solid hosting as well, as the transfer otherwise can run up and I doubt anyone have a completely free transfer to other sites. Or if you know of any with free transfer then shout too

    You can't find domains with free private whois for $5 (at least not from well known hosting companies). I would however suggest you these:

    Netfirms $7.95
    Internet.bs $7.99 (.net $6.39)

    I hope that this helps a little! You might find domains with free whois privacy for a cheaper price but I doubt that they are enough reliable. The companies above are really old and trusted so I would go with them

    I migrated nearly all of my domains from GoDaddy a couple of years ago. I only have a moderate amount of domains (100ish) but now I use Name.com with 9.99 .coms with free private WHOIS with the coupon code "FREEWHOIS". I went with them when they were 8.99 and gave away private whois as part of the package, but it still remains my favorite registrar for a number of reasons.

    They have solid bulk domain management tools and you're not constantly drowning under upsells like you are on GoDaddy. They're also releasing an API to customers soon that will allow us to manage our domains and register domains from our own management interfaces.

    Neither the cheapest nor a wallet breaker, but overall a great company to work with.

    As far as hosting, I use MediaTemple for the bulk of my sites and simply route my domains to their name servers. If at anytime I'm not happy with the hosting company I'm with, I can just up and leave. That's the benefit of separating your domains from your hosting. If you find a better deal, you don't have to deal with managing those domains on your old host, you just point it to it's new home.

      You couldn't recommend a better hosting service! I had MediaTemple's DV hosting plan for a few months and I was more than satisfied. Only reason to end the contract was because I took my site down and didn't need that hosting anymore. They also have loads of big name clients and it only strengthens their positions as a top notch hosting service!

      I do like that Whois protection is on there by default and their mature developer API and prices are market standard. How are their bulk management tools?

      One way you can save 10% on every transaction with Godaddy is to sign up to Ebates.com then click on Godaddy from within Ebates.com and you will get 10% back on all purchases, renewals etc

      Worthwhile if you buy a lot of domain names especially if you have any .info which you may have bought for less than a dollar initially, they can cost you about $11 when you renew them a year later!

        And it's still 10% more expensive than most of GoDaddy's competitors
