Which is best HTML Websites or Wordpress Websites

HTML is best but it takes lot of time to add / change any thing which takes lot of manual hours if the website is bigger. Wordpress makes the work more easy and it is handy too as there are lot of pulgins available on the web and it's a good platform.

Small site: HTML preferable | Larger Website: Wordpress / any CMS.

It depends on how skilled you are at writing HTML. There is a lot to learn if you want to create an HTML site from scratch and it takes practice to put together a good, professional site written in good solid code. And you need HTML editing software (Dreamweaver or ExpressionWeb etc) to help put it all together which doesn't come cheap.

With WordPress, on the other hand, most of the coding work is done for you and it is much easier to create a website yourself with no previous experience of HTML. There are some really great themes available which makes it much quicker to get something off the ground rather than building an HTML site.

There is no reason to do pages in pure HTML anymore. It's just too much work and there's no advantages if WordPress (etc) is configured correctly.

Best for what? That would be my first question what are you trying to do? There are still reasons for using a static site. They are just different tools for different purposes thats it.

So the question really is. What are you trying to do and which tool would be best to do it with?

If you have a system that speed up your development, then I would choose HTML. Especially if you plan to host many sites on one private server (VPS or dedicated).

If you don't have a system like that, then go with WordPress; it gives you most of the things out of the box, plus extendable functionality with plugins. You will also save your time.

Wordpress sites now give you so much flexibility that it almost makes html sites redundant.

With wordpress you can install a lot of plugins for email capture, all in one seo, sitemaps etc which all help seo.

If you are in the minisite niche then perhaps you would get them done by a graphic artist in html and just type in your sales copy etc in a html editor.

If you are not deciding to go with minisites then wordpress is definitely the way to go. Also if you get bored, or its not converting with a particular theme, or you want to give your site a bit of a facelift, it is simply a case of installing a new theme and making minor amendments.

I <3 Wordpress. It makes things simple. You build your theme using HTML/ PHP anyways, this just makes making content changes simpler in my opinion. With Wordpress you can also use plugins to achieve pretty much anything you want, why reinvent the wheel.

BTW, no one has yet to point out the obvious answer, which is no matter what, your site will be using HTML. The choice is never HTML or <insert random technology here>, unless you're choosing between HTML, and say, Flash.

If you have the time and the skill to do manual coding for the site, then go for HTML. If you don't have the both then, Wordpress is best for you. It's easy, plugins are great and most importantly it's SEO friendly.

Just to add another point of view here...

I have a client whose website is pretty much basic html (written in the early 2000s, so ~10 years old). Over the years his site has grown pretty big, with over 200 pages...

Some of his pages use include files for the head/footer html. But, there are still some that needed custom header/footer information.

When they want to do a site-wide change to their "template" it takes hours to do.

If he would update to a CMS (Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla) then those same changes would take maybe an hour... and most likely a lot less.

Point being, for maintenance, using a CMS of some sort will save you time and money.

I think WordPress sites are easier to manage, especially with the use of plugins. However, HTML sites allow you to be more creative because each page doesn't have to follow a template.

  If you want fine control over the design of a site, and perhaps have an eye on acquiring skills to work in a studio environment then learning at least the basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript are the way to go. If you are aiming to be a developer then you also need some dynamic language skills such as PHP.
  
  If you want to get sites up and running which you want to update without worrying too much about code stick with Wordpress or another 'blogging' based CMS. Then you can acquire or buy in tools and plugins to enhance the site. Nothing wrong with either approach, but having the skills in the first paragraph will enhance your use of WordPress anyway.
  
  Time is the killer. Studios tend to have two teams of several staff working on any project. The Creatives put together the GUI, pretty things up in Photoshop, do the copy writing/editing. The Developers code code code. Up until a few years ago I freelanced in this field and never saw anyone use WordPress, it was all Eclipse, Flex/Flash and of course Dreamweaver.

HTML sites are the best. It demands knowledge of HTML but you can use several functionalities to design an attractive webpage which is not possible in WordPress. That doesn't mean WordPress is not useful. WordPress can be used by people those who don't want to put their heads over a book telling them about HTML tags.

I am 100% in favor of wordpress base website as compare to html website. Wordpress website do 80% of SEO work on its own. If you go for custom website design and development that has some built-in features as in wordpress like category, tags, pages, tag could etc it may cost you 1000s of $ in addition to a lot more time. It is also easy to modify design without compromising data lost etc

Go to Wordpress, for precisely the same reasons stated in its response. I'm not as proficient with Wordpress as it probably is. In fact, I am recommending Wordpress so that from the perspective of a rookie. I registered so that if and seemed a bit overwhelming at first. This is because there are many things you can do it.

There are plenty of free themes to choose and customize different elements of the theme you choose is easy to use interface Wordpress. If you want to be very detailed customization, you can even go so far as to edit the theme's CSS. There are plugins and widgets that can be used as well. You can actually build a course around the site with static pages using Wordpress.

Si if you got some HTML knowledge you can use Wordpress.

Personally, i prefer wordpress, because it's a really big time saver

It depends on quantity of content, how often the content is updated, and if there is a blog. If the site is going to grow and the content is updated fairly regularly, I think WP is the way to go.

I do not believe the search engines prefer one over another. If the same site was built in both structures, I would bet they would be ranked identically; IMHO.

I've always liked straight up HTML best, but then again, I thought that Wordpress was just a blogger platform, like Blogger but less restrictions in some things and more restrictions in other things.

Where can I go to get a run down of what Wordpress is capable of?

When working with HTML, what I've always liked to do is use real time HTML sites online. Just type that into the search engine and you should be able to find a few.

I think the better question would have been:

HTML/CSS/PHP or Wordpress.

Then the hand programed one, if you have dreamweaver or some other program, the content is just as easy to change. Same with site design changed. The plugins for wordpress, do make features quicker to add though.

Personally, I much prefer HTML to WP. Firstly, HTML gives you far more control over the web-page, and you can edit any element of the site, layout and design as you see fit. Also, if you start with a template site for HTML, you can just modify that to suit your needs, and it cuts out a lot of the needless work of actually setting up the basic elements of the page.

However, without a doubt WP is much easier to use, and more accessible to people with no or little prior knowledge of HTML. It's also lower maintenance, and can be added to easily.

In the end, it comes down to what you want from your site, how much HTML knowledge you have, and how much time you are willing to put into it.

IMHO, there are few instances where Wordpress would not serve a better purpose than pure HTML. If you're going to build a site, it must be built with SEO in mind, interaction by the user, optimized graphics, forms to collect information, video, etc.
Wordpress makes that so much easier, as long as you don't upload some big, huge graphic or fill it with 47 plug-ins that slow it down to a crawl. Nothing is perfect. There will always be things the other one (HTML or WP) will do better. Choose one and stick with it, master it; I've done both. From that experience, I think starting with Wordpress is far easier. WP is good. The only problem is with using db connections; when I setup WP on two servers; one for database and the other for htmls,scripts,images... it becomes significantly slow.

For small sites or novice users alway WP. For big sites, depends on the requirements.

But why do you ask this question ? If it is because you don't know Wordpress yet, I think you must install and try this out yourself (doesn't cost anything anyway) because you must know both technologies.

Question has sparked a lot of debate. Wp is definitely easier because you don't need to know any coding at all. It also has the advantage of site wide change at the click of a button with themes etc. Tons of themes to choose from, editable headers and backgrounds, custom navigation, options with plugins and widgets. There is no doubt Wordpress has a lot going for it, and it is seo friendly, especially with some plugins that help even more. Having said all that, I love dreamweaver and find that i have more flexibility using it, especially if you can work within the code as well.

Adobe is improving Dreamweaver all the time adding extra functionality. There are widgets that can be downloaded from Adobe that are helpful and are similar to the functions you can get with Wordpress widgets.

CS5.5 is expensive, less so if you are in education, and this can be a downside, but included is photoshop and fireworks which give you a bit of creative space to make your website really individual.

If it is a small static site, you can get away with an "old school" straight HTML site, but if you need something more dynamic you'll have to look at PHP and, eventually, a CMS.

Also of course depends on your proficiency with HTML, code, etc. For most people, a CMS like WordPress would probably serve their needs well.

I'm not knocking plain HTML sites, mind you, they have their place. One of my oldest websites have been running happily for something like 12 years as a HTML site.

One upside of plain HTML sites is that they are immune to any database issues on your server ...

if you have skill on html and your website is static, you can use html.

but i if you dont have any skill on html or your site is change frequently, i suggest you use wordpress. but i prefer use wordpress, because it easy to use and you can develop your site quickly.

It all depends on your needs, I would highly recommend Word-Press due to the fact that it can be modified easily. However if you need to create a website to your own liking I would recommend HTML but you will also need to know CSS and possibly PHP to create a nice looking website.

So, you are a entrepreneur. You know you need clients, income and products or services to provide. Once the specifics of that to-do list are decided out, not too far behind needs to be the generation of a web page for your new company.

If this is certainly not on your mouth this year then you may as well not start your company (in my respectful opinion). It odds if you are a designer, insurance sales rep, artisan, photographer or CPA - you MUST have a web page that is readily available, simple to get around and one that completely features your company attractions and individuality.

Now comes the hard part - should you pay the money to create your site on HTML webpages or use the WordPress platform?

This is certainly not an simple concern to response in that it eventually is determined by your personal needs, but I strongly believe that a personalized WordPress web page can provide up a lot of benefits and at a much cheaper.

I'd say WordPress all the time.

Running WordPress on Varnish + Nginx + PHP-FPM + APC can pretty much get you the performance like that of a static HTML-site.

Like many others have already said, I think it depends largely on what functionality you need for your website.

If you're designing a website for a business that's strictly informational about their products and services a static HTML website is a good choice.

If you're more interested in more frequent updates Wordpress might be a better option for that.

It's probably a good idea to determine what your goals are for the site ahead of time so you can design it accordingly.

WordPress websites generate HTML. WordPress is the engine behind the website. I can take a "normal" HTML website and turn it into a WordPress template that WordPress will use to generate a website that is exactly the same.

Except speed.

WordPress powered websites take a little longer to serve than a website that serves up plain HTML pages. However, with a decent server, this speed difference is not noticeable.

I think the advantages that WordPress provides far outweighs that minor (and usually) unnoticeable set back.

I am pretty amazed, that it took that many posts before anyone even posted this simple fact.

Wordpress is a dynamic CMS web application that renders to HTML.

The correct wording would have been

"Flat static HTML files Vs Dynamically Rendered WordPress"

But even then you are not comparing "apples to apples".

(1) Nothing beats the speed of a flat static file (why do you think dynamic site use caching?)

(2) You CAN make WordPress almost as "fast" as flat static HTML files, however you will need a strong "Caching Policy".

(3) Naturally for dynamic content, and content management, the sensible choice would be a CMS system, WordPress is not the only CMS system. But it is a very popular one.

(3) There are no "Magic SEO" tools, yes tools help, but there is much more to SEO then simply using a wordpress CMS engine.

First you need to understand that Web design is more than just HTML. You also need to know javaScript and CSS and how all of these act in each browser by version. Using Wordpress you don't need to worry about these as much since the developers should be using a common technique to drive the data to the browser.

actually Wordpress is a Content Management System, it is still HTML.

the only difference of a static site (which is you say HTML websites) to dynamic-content site (Wordpress site) is that the content can be updated without the help or intervention of a web developer through the cms of the site..

According to me Wordpress is the best way to organize pages of websites and if we are using HTML only then its a very time consuming process. Wordpress is wonderful CMS for developing websites with better functionality and in a very short time.
