Wordpress Blog Title Problem

I have edited the theme of my Wordpress blog to show a banner across the top of pages. Previously the theme displayed the Site Title and Tagline as set up in the General Options.

My problem is, I now have to leave the Site Title and Tagline fields blank in the General options otherwise this text continues to display on top of the banner.

Consequently, when I search for the blog or view the page source, Wordpress pulls a title from the first two words of the title of the page I display on the front page.

Can anyone explain a way to enter these two vital fields so that Google picks them up, without them displaying on top of the banner?

BTW - I use the Platinum SEO plugin, but the Home Title and Home Description I've entered there are not displaying.

    Hi Anne

When you edited the theme to add your banner you should have also either deleted or commented out the code for displaying the Title & Tagline - this would mean that your General Settings could have been left as they were.

I not familiar with the theme you are using but unless it has an Admin panel to change this feature, then you will have to edit the "header.php" file.

PM me if you need a hand.

I did wonder about doing that. So Google, etc. will then find and use the title and tagline without the links pointing to them in the header?
