#1 in Google for keywords, please help

Just bought a domain and site that was #1 in google for a couple of keywords. I just switched registrar to godaddy and hosting to dreamost.

will i hurt my SERP by taking long to get site back up on my server. i asked the seller of the site to let me direct to his nameservers but i hasnt brought up the old site yet.

so the site is down right now. i was always going to setup a new wordpress site on the new server using the same domain.

am i ok just geting up a new wordpress site and getting some new seo, keywords into the site. or should i concentrate on using the old site files up?

am i screwing up my SERP and rankings by taking a few hours to have figured this out?

thanks

It varies case-by-case. In my experience though if it's had solid rankings for a while a few days of down time will cause it to drop in rankings. However, once the site is back online it usually takes over its previous rankings pretty quickly (a day or two).

As an example that type of situation happens all the time when someone exceeds bandwidth on shared hosting.

That's only if you're using the old content/setup though. It's impossible to say whether changing the site will hurt or change your rankings without testing.

Thanks for info. I know there are many factors, but I've always wondered how some websites completely change their site and maintain SERP.

I have already got the site back up on my server and still using the original format and structure until i get my own changes done slowly and make sure i keep the built in SEO that was done.

      Thanks!

Could you come back to this thread in a few weeks and let us know if there was any change to the ranking after the switch but before your site edits? Thanks.
