wp multisite woes

Hi

I'm having a load of trouble getting wp multi site set up and resorted to plugins which failed miserably

I am wanting people who are in the same niche sign up and run their wp blogs as sub domains of my domain.

Can anyone help me?

    • Yeah - I defined the wp_multisite_allow function i the config file . . . about 7 times and each time I got an error and had to delete / reinstall each time!

      Thats when I turned to plugins to help me/ Problem is that although the install goes through the motions of adding new accounts, subdomains are not created!

  • I had the idea of starting a multisite also, a disaster it was to set it up. If you do a search for managewp you will find a free service to make a multisite. (they have announced to start billing people for the service later)

    The method is simple:

    1. Install a special plugin on every website in the network
    2. Go to the dashboard of managewp and activate

    • Thank Jan for mentioning ManageWP. We are different to multisite as we allow any WordPress site to be managed from one location. We also focus on integration with other Web 2.0 services like Google Analytics, Amazon, Dropbox (for backups) etc. Feel free to try, looking forward to your impressions.
  • The guide David recommends is pretty spot on.
    The problem I had with this came in after setting things up. EVERY spammer in the world comes and tries to begin blogging on your server. They even have lists of multi-blog sites that they distribute. I found the hassle not worth it and took it down.
