Should I hire a programmer or buy a script?

Hi All,
A client wants a script that can run her 3x7 matrix program. She wants to limit members at intervals. Here's what she wants it to do.

1. After payment a new ID number should automatically be generated for each member.

2. Every member should see a graphical display of where they are in the matrix as they climb

3. She wants to limit members after so many signups so that members can support themselves by rejoining from the bottom after they cycle. The idea is to take care of recruiting issues

4. She wants the matrix to be divided into 3 categories like to gold, silver and platinum

We looked into aj matrix but we're confused as to whether it can serve the purpose or not. Should we get a programmer or buy a script?

Can a wordpress plugin do that if designed from scratch?

  • Outsourcing the work to an experienced programmer is what I would like to recommend, It will provide you more flexibility to make the neccessary changes as per your client's requirements.
  • buying a script should be cheaper than outsourcing your own system to be created from scratch

    you better try to outsource this and mentioning all the functions you need adding that you need to buy a ready made script if possible and adding any missing feature

    modifying a script should be much faster with lower cost at all keep creating this thing from scratch your last choice .

    You most likely WON'T find a script that does what you described above, so hiring a programmer is the best choice. Plus it doesn't seem so complex so you might even get a good price
  • I will recommend you to hire a programmer. If you buy a script it will cost you more if you want modifications.

  • Thanks to everyone who responded. From research, I've discovered that most programmers dislike working with already created script. I think the Idea of getting a particular script that meets with most of the requirements above will do. Then programmers who can make the necessary adjustments can bid for the job.

    I have gone through your post and as per the specification its really difficult to get such complex script ready, so its better to hire offshore developer and go for the open source platform because open source is cost effective.
  • I recommend you to hire a programmer. It will cost you less. If you buy a script it would be very tough to modify the script as per your requirements.

  • Yes. You can hire a developer and you can make a WP plugin will work like charm. But, I don't think you can buy a script and customize it. Only a developer can help you out.
  • I would hire a programmer - the script you need sounds complicated. There's alot of variables involved. Plus your client wants a payment system that is customized to their needs.
  • well u can hire freelancer from frelancing website out there where they code scripts for some money ... hope so u got good answer !

    • If you can find a script that can answer your needs, don't hire anymore. But if you still need a programmer to modify the script, you need to consider: some programmer don't like going through the codes which he didn't build. Some codes might be useless and might complicate the needed code as well. And if you will be spending more than half the cost in the modification, then I suggest just hire a programmer to build it from scratch according to your needs.

    • If you do search on google for "mlm matrix script" OR "mlm script", you will get many results. Check those scripts.

      Something can be picked up from the shelf.
