Is it possible to Back up my entire WP site? I've been messing with the code. I'm concerned I might make unrepairable damage.

I'm finding it irresistible to start tweaking the site.

It would be nice to have a "go back" button.
#programming #backup #word press
  • VaultPress & Backup buddy work well.
  • A good free plugin is WP-DB Backup as well.

    • Backup buddy or manually back the DB and directory structure.

I can explain how to manually here if you want?

    • Only backs up the database though. Doesn't back up your themes, plugins, graphics etc.

  • Do you have to pay for Backup buddy?
  • Vaultpress!!!

Not free though and I only use it on super large sites. 10,000+ posts and above.
  • Check with your hosting provider as well - a lot of hosts (especially ones using cPanel) actually have a backup option that's basically point and click, and it'll back up your files as well as MySQL databases.

I do this from time to time anyway, as I just like to have my site backed up in case my hosting provider goes up in flames.

But it's a VERY good idea to do this before you make any major changes to a site you're currently happy with.

    cheers

  • WP-DB-Backup is an easy to use and reliable plugin that I use to backup and clone Wordpress sites. I even have a short guide on how to go about in the WSO section.

    • Robert Plank's WP Backup Creator is a good system if you don't want to do the backup manually.

  • I use wp-clone. Cost me $97 (i have no affiliation with the vendor) but it's been of fantastic use for both backup and also for replicating sales sites.
  • I used vaultpress and now using WPDB Backup. You may try with these all are working.
  • I'm using backwpup. It works, you can choose to backup only files, only database or both. It zips and sends you the backup zipped file everywhere you want, even on a cloud, but the most important thing is that some time ago I needed a database restore and everything went well.

    • JF... "the most important thing is that some time ago I needed a database restore and everything went well" That is absolutely the most important point! I have seen so much backup crap offered that FAILS when actually used to RESTORE. It does not matter how pretty a plugin or program looks unless it RESTORES properly
  • Backup buddy is the best!
I t will save u a lot of time if you want to setup a lot of websites with same plugins activated and settings.
