Most Simple CMS

Hi,

I am usually never using a cms system, but for the actual project the client requires it.

So I am looking for something VERY VERY simple (preferably just one or two core files) cms.

I would like it to be able to work with any kind of template, so that it actually just takes care for the content and the meta information. Additionally, it should have a simple way to add new pages+categories (="folders"). Nothing else!

If any1 has some recommendations, that he tried himself (I can google for myself!), I would like to hear them!

    Frog CMS might is something I could use, while cushycms is again not free (at least if you want to "Use your own logo, color scheme and domain." - which I will obv. need to, because I am not going to use a subdomain for a client´s business website....).

    Still looking for some1 who has personal experience with a simple CMS, that he has been using and can give a detailed feedback! Like I said, I can google them myself, but I would like to hear some reviews

  • phpnuke is a pretty simple CMS. Joomla , Mambo are good too but a little more advanced.
  • Joomla is good to start. I think you will never move out of it.

    • I agree, most hosts provide a one click install for wordpress, or if your host doesn't installing via FTP is very straight forward. Plus once running, you can have content on line in minutes. Building as many ages as you like. Plus there are 10's of thousands of templates available.
  • Look for CMS systems that publish with text files. They are usually the most light weight. But they could require the content to be entered with HTML source for formatting.

    But I also think integrating a wordpress blog is the best option. The seo is easy and the navigation through the blog posts, etc is also easy.

  • Sounds like your more looking blog or news site. Not a CMS. I would say something like b2evolution or WordPress. if you want an easier CMS is probably Drupal has some power too. SEO is also well that was the best dog for my password for a long time.

    • Not sure how you jumped to that conclusion but I clearly said I am looking for a simple CMS.

      To all others suggesting Wordpress, Joomla or Drupal: Thanks for your time to answer (or better: thank me for giving you an opportunity to push your post count), but I said: a simple CMS (does it seem to you that Wordpress/Joomla/Drupal are simple and consist of only 1,2 core files?)

      Anyways, I think I found something. So thanks all!

  • I use WP mostly because folks think it's the best and easiest, but SubDreamer is best if you want something simple for your client.

  • I installed several TYPO3 CMS Mambo Drupal for the nuclear bomb and its variants and so on. In addition to reading documents on the installation of the installation do not want to read something else.

  • I would say wordpress.

    Limiting the permissions for the user would limit what they see so it's not too convoluted and then there's tons of good tutorial videos on youtube and other video sites to get all the wordpress basics covered, if you need to train your user on wordpress just select some good videos and your done.
  • As stated above - GetSimple is pretty good for a flat file CMS - current package size comes in at a whopping 695KB.

    Has a few templates to choose from that you could easily redesign if needed and if you wanted to build your own, not that hard to learn and go..

    I opt for finding a template structure that works and re-styling it..

  • Checkout lightcms, perchcms, textpattern, modx and wordpress
  • There's also Quick.Cms by OpenSolution.org - they have a free version, and it uses a flatfile, not MySQL to store data. Also have some plugins.

    Maybe too many "core files' for you, but check it out. I'm testing it now on a new site, so do not have a boatload of experience with it yet.

  • I still think Wordpress is the most simple CMS, because you can get tons of tutorials,
    themes, plugin, and easy to use for developer and your client.

    And the best thing, it is free
