Microsoft Office problem

I have a weird problem I am hoping someone can help me with.
I am using MS Office 2003.
I MUST use this program and not Open office.

The problem I have is that I have 6 links to pdfs in an ebook I have written.
However, the links don't work in MS Office.
If I convert it to an Open Office format it works.

I get a message in MS saying


I click yes and get a message saying
I have tried going through help and doing a lot of different things and my webmaster has also tried but no luck.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?
It only happens with links to pdfs. Normal links are fine.

    • Could be a registry error problem..Have you tried de-fragging your entire drive?

  • I have done that and it made no difference.
  • Try Detect & Repair (or similar language) on the Help menu.

    Is this error happening when you click the link in the PDF or when you click the link in Word?

    Haven't used 2003 in a while but you may want to consider searching for things like "trusted documents" or "security links" in help.

    Are you saving this document in My Documents or elsewhere on your PC?

    Just brainstorming here because I know how frustrating it can be.

  • It happens when I click the pdf link in the Word doc.
    I have checked out trusted docs and security, etc. The pdfs are saved on my website and the ebook is saved on my desktop.
    I appreciate any brainstorming because it is really p##### me off that I can't figure it out.
  • So your document is on your computer and you are linking to a PDF online?

    Do you use Internet Explorer?

    If so, consider adding your site as a trusted site in Internet Explorer. Close IE and then try the links again.

  • I use Firefox actually. Does that make a difference?
  • I'd still do the IE thing because Word doesn't know what Firefox is - it always uses IE for connecting to the Internet if I'm not mistaken.
  • Just tried it and it still makes no difference at all.
