nothing more to add to the two previous ones, however:

Always start with a small project when working the freelancer.
Also, make sure to include some "magic word" in the description.

There are a bunch of programmers (mostly from certain countries), that will answer you with a standard email along the lines of "read your description, understood it perfectly, here are my references".

Then, when you start with them, they are unreliable, incompetent, and more... I've seen everything. That's why you should start with a small project.

Adding a "magic word" (I like to soay somewhere in the end of my project description "to make sure you've read and understood this, place the word "blue calculator" in your answer. All other answers will be igonred).

You'll be amazed how many answers without that you'll get- skip them all.
