Targeting content to visitors location

PROGRAMMING

I know that certain ads display Portland Oregon when I load the page, so obviously they detect my location (just outside Portland Oregon). Can anyone tell me how that is done so I can modify my article and title to jive with their physical location?

If this is real complicated then it is probably over my head, but I would like to be able to do it if possible. I am sure it has to do with IP address somehow. Can anyone help?

If you use WordPress, there are geo-targeting plugins that will allow you to do that, e.g.:
WordPress › GT-Geo Targeting « WordPress Plugins
Install & Setup | WP-GeoLocation | WordPress Plugin

With those, you can use shortcodes in your articles, so the content will change according to the visitor's location.

If not WP, this will probably be harder, although I'm sure there are scripts that can do it - try hotscripts.com

Also, there has been a pretty good WSO out on that issue recently. I forgot the exact name, but you should find it in the WSO section.
