Need Help With Remote WordPress Registration

Hi,

I have a WordPress based membership site. One of the membership products is a free blog on a Wordpress MultiSite that I have located on another hosting account.

My goal is for the members of my membership site to be able to submit a form and have their blog created for them on the remote multisite installation.

After searching high and low, hither and thither and yon, I cannot find a plugin that does anything quite like that. I have found one on Allow your Multisite users to bulk create blogs and users, with ease that could be used as a model, although it does not work remotely.

Does anyone know of any way that I can accomplish my goal?

Thanks
Kirk

  • Hey Kirk,

can you specify one thing: On submitting the form, should the blog be *automatically* created?

  • Hi Rob,

Yes, that would be what I am looking for.

Thought is that if I am having the subscriber of "A" submit a form to get access to "B," then they should not have to do anything additional at "B" to gain that access, other than log in.

I will already have their existing email, password and a desired username, so they can be sent as hidden fields if the system can use it.

I look forward to your suggestions.

    Cheers from here,
    Kirk

P.S. - Does the absence of this tool on the market mean there's not much demand, or that it hasn't been thought of?
  • Hmm, don't have my WPMU install in front of me, but try this:

Go to Super Admin -> Options. Check the "allow users to create sites" button.
they'll get a link under the Dashboard, and you can also direct them to wp-signup.php.

If it's not there, try under Registration / Allow New Registrations: "Logged in users may register new sites."

Let me knwo if that helps.

    Cheers,
    Rob

  • I've done that on the multisite ... but I want them to be able to create the site by using a form on the single site.

Wondering if I can do it with an iframe?

Hmmm ... I'll cogitate and think more tomorrow.
  • Hi Kirk,

ah, I got you completely wrong then. Clear now; you don't want the "main host" site to be spawning the sites, but one of the SUB-sites.

hmm.... I frame makes sense, though there must be another way to do it... somehow doesn't make me happy in terms of rights management etc.

I'll think about this one again as well. It's been a while since I've actively set up my multisite setup, so...

Hope I'll come up with sth.

    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Thanks Rob,

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I'm going to experiment with the iFrame idea over the next few days .... I'm thinking that it will take some fiddling to feed the member parameters to the multisite blog creation or registration form. Have to see what I (as a non-coder) can figure out.

    Thanks again!
