I am using Optimize press to set up sales pages, etc to sell an ebook and possibly an audio book (of the same content).

One thing I don't know how to do is protect downloads. Is there software for this people have used and can recommend? I've looked at a few all the info is just a wall of sales copy... I want real feedback ?

I don't use it, but doesn't OptimizePress already offer download protection? According to their site:
    Add Downloadable Content & more

OptimizePress makes it easy for you to add links to your downloads, with our custom download content shortcodes. You can even add nifty icons next to your downloads for PDFs, Videos and more.
Otherwise, just do a search for "download manager" at the WP Plugins directory - there are many plugins that can do this.

I use and always recommend DAP - DigitalAccessPass

WordPress Membership Plugin - Membership Script For WordPress Blogs And Regular Web Sites

    (no affiliate link).

Extremely powerful, great drip feeding functionality etc.

I've had good luck with download guard (I can't post links yet, but just google search "download guard"), I know a lot of other people on here use it too. It allows you to set-up multiple products, and use multiple payment processors. Once you have your products set-up it will give you a link you can add to your sales pages and you'll be all ready to go.

I accomplish this in one of two ways.

    1) I use the password protect feature in wordpress. This will require that you send them the password, but it's easy enough to do with the receipt or having them added to an autoresponder. Then wordpress will conceal the content until they type in the password.

    2) I use MemberWing on more more sophisticated websites. This gives exceptional control or where content is, who has access to it and for how long. It also integrates directly with Aweber, PayPal and other resources that round out the sales process. It even has a Digital Online Store built in.
