  • Hi.

You can try to recover the "public" content of your site from search engine cache for example.

Can you access the site of your hosting company?
  • well I need to reinstate the site with another hosting company so need the files... No the current hosting company also seem to be down, I never really looked at the hosting company before because the site was set up for me. Now the guy who setup my site is not responding to my emails..l

    • You may also try to contact the data center where server is located. Maybe they will be able to help.

What is the message you see when trying to access your site?

It may be that site of your current host is located on the same server where your account is. So if server is down, their site is down as well in this case.
Do they have any contact methods besides e-mails@TheirMainDomain.com?

  • That's why Hosting is such a precious item of our arsenal. If you work with a reliable company you would be fine. Now, I am not sure how you gonna solve this issue.
  • Firstly, you want to make sure the site is actually down, and not just for you. Try downforeveryoneorjustme.com or viewing your site via a proxy.

If it is down just for you, there may be another reason, such as a problem with your ISP, or you may have been blocked by the server firewall for something (it has happened to me).

If the site is down for everyone, you have a much bigger problem ... try the advice above. You might have to resort to manually restoring the site by copy and pasting from Google cache, or the Wayback machine.

    Good luck and Happy Holidays!

  • Options,

Did you manage to access your data?
  • Now that I've used it, Any host that I would use will have live chat that includes tech support. At least then you work with the rep in trying to get your equipment working again

Hostgator for me for about 3 years now.
  • thats sad :S
  • It might be to late but you could try using warrick (warrick.cs.odu.edu/warrick.html). It will try reconstructing your website by searching the Internet Archive as well as Google, Bing, and Yahoo cache for stored files and images. If you were using a CMS it of course wouldn't get all that back for you, but at least you might have all of your content.
