  • What's the problem?

I think I've installed VB 6 on Win 7 without any problem.
  • You must go and get a visual basic 6.0 which is compatible with windows 7 i am having VB 6.0 for windows xp and 7 too and thr is a bit difference between both of two.
  • Have you tried installing it as an administrator, with full rights ?
  • Why would you want to install vb6? Surely vs2008 or vs2010 would now be the option of choice? if you have an old vb6 project use the project upgrade wizard!?

    • Some people still prefer to use VB6 so that they can build apps that don't require the .NET framework to be installed on the end users computer. Of course, that's becoming less and less of an issue each year, but I think that is (or at least was) one of the primary reasons why a lot of developers still use VB6.
  • VB 6.0 enterprise edition is the good one by Microsoft, it got a RAD (rapid application development) tool for building fast projexts and applications (exe) by less time consumption.

  • There is a ton of VB6 legacy code out there. If software works, is it worth the man-hours to convert a 100,000 line program to .NET?

    • You're correct - if it works, it may not be not worth the effort. If it doesn't, the pros and cons of upgrading have to be considered. And in the case of my project, the client needed several enhancements to the program.

I could have incorporated the changes into the VB6 app, but we chose to upgrade to ensure the continued operation of the program well into the future. We decided that it wasn't wise to continue to invest money to enhance an application using a language that is no longer supported by Microsoft. There's no guarantee that support will continue for programs created using VB6 in future OS releases. There are already questions about compatibility with Win7.

    • That might work. But I've found most of the time compatability mode doesn't work
  • Just make sure that Visual Basic 6 has the latest Service Pack.
You could run it inside a XP Virtual Machine. There would be less application incompatibilities that way.
