Wordpress can be a full CMS, and look nothing like a blog. It has far more plugins and support than Joomla. Though, I've seen successfull sites built with both.

      I agree with Chris.
CMS is overrated at so many levels.
It ties you in its own specifics and soon becomes more of a barrier than a useful tool.
Lightweight blog - e.g. wordpress or similar is what I would go with if I was starting now.

wordpress is the best one coz it also got SEO tricks in google easily and joomla is quite gud but typical and uncomfortable to handle and datafile is out of the race when wordpress and joomla are here.

    Here is my recommendation:
    1. Wordpress is simple and easy especially for blogs but it can be used for other type of sites.
    2. Joomla needs more learning but once you master it, it's very fun. I like joomla because i can code custom solution easier than when using wordpress.
    3. Drupal. This one is not easy to learn and not many themes providers for this cms. You can learn it as the 3rd option if you have spare time.

    Hope this helps.

    Reason:
    1. I like it.

    3. Loads of free components/modules/plugins.

Not that wordpress does not have all those. Its just my preference and Joomla looks and feels more professional than wordpress to me.

If you wasnt as true article site / news site look at the scripts that comewith your hosting accunt. Forget free, go with a paid host. The price is in line.
I just wrote an article on reasons you need web hosting.
There is a ohp script called

PHPLD even though its a linjk directory great article and news script,

Softalicious includes article set up, its good
Here is one i installed a while back

      sorry cant post link

If you go with wordpress make sure you go with an article theme there are a ton ofthem but are extra.

This is a matter of choice, so pick one and roll with it. I would not use wordpress for an article directory but thats just me.
      Iam always thinking scalability.

      Here is my model.
Website --- contains the static data and links outward to a blog for dynamic content. website links to article directory. website links to a cms like phpnuke that houses your links and new feeds. This can be propagated across different servers, this way they don't all fall down.
This is all do able with 2 good paid hosting accounts

I will go with Drupal than WP probably Joomla ..if not then WP would be the last option which I can try..but honestly ..Wp sites are look more like blog than websites..there are few exceptions..

If someone allow me & if its suit my pocket I will have own CMS to be built than any GPL CMS personal option.

Joomla CMS is an good content management system allowing easy management and maintenance of your website, with little or no programming knowledge needed. It offers all the required features right from adding and updating everything such as your images, article pages, navigation menus, and users to more elaborate in terms of technology enhancements. Increasing the functionality of a website can be done by number of extensions offered by Joomla software.
The WordPress content management system is an ideal platform for bloggers as it is easy to install and use. You can customize it according to your needs. Moreover for its customization you don't need to have extensive programming knowledge. You can make your website more dynamic by using WordPress plug-ins which can be installed easily. This technology gives your website an in-built platform allowing visitors to comment on your posts automatically. I still opt and recommend WordPress. But it doesn't mean Joomla is not good. Joomlah is great for more professional look and for neater design wherein you dont have to look for themes that suits your business.

I've used WordPress, Movable Type and many other content management systems over the years for all kinds of sites and for a variety of clients.

WordPress is usually the best solution because it's easy to get started with - but becomes a powerful platform with the right plugins and themes.

I reviewed the most common content management systems here - WordPress, dedicated ecommerce hosting offers and complete site builders. In a nutshell, unless you have very specialist requirements, WordPress should fit your needs with a pretty small learning curve.

Everyone says WordPress so let me add why I think WP is a good option: It appears to have the most momentum and surpassed Joomla regarding that. This leads to more extensions, tutorials, a stable future and makes it a good investment. Technical reasons like "this or that is better solved in CMS XY" are not that important imho.

I do however think that WP is starting to get a bit too loaded and complicated.

WordPress has far surpassed the rest of the CMS's out there. Joomla and all the rest of dinosaurs. Their code is bloated and not secure. I have built sites with all of them and in good conscious can not recommend anything other than WP.

You can do some amazing things with this. Most of the Fortune 500 now use it and it is not because it sucks.

We have built some amazing sites and functions with it. From huge memberships sites to stores with thousands of items, to quick squeeze pages. WP does it all. Be careful what plugins you use. 95% are crap and full of code bloat. The less plugins you use the better.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

What I Think is that you should use Wordpress, since you have little bit knoledge of it and it can be pretty easily customized.
For News and Articles website use of wordpress is very good.
You should add the ping links of rss article/news websites in your wordpress settings tab.
This will work as an agent to make aware that you have posted a new news.
So it will also increase your traffic if your post is of that quality.
Joomla and Datalife Engine are also good but will take you some more time to make your site live and you may find Datalife Engine especially a bit difficult.
    So all The Best.

You can easily convert wp from a blogging platform to a full powered cms. There are a lot of plugins and themes, that can help you along the way.
And another plus is that wp has a great community, which means great support.
