Hello,

Anyone has used oscommerce a e-commerce store? What r u review? It is easy to customized or not?

Your advice please...

    I have more than once and what I can tell you is:
    If you don't want customizate much... yes will be easy but if you want customizate it's not impossible but will give you some work.

      There are some other systems based on this that may be better than "vanilla" osCommerce, depending on your requirements. I 100% agree with the poster who said that if you don't need much customization, osC is nice. But if you want to change much about it, it can get very hard very fast.

    OSCommerce can easily get mangled if you do not know what you are doing. There is a very good chance you will want to use some of the extensions and many of those require code changes. Once you get into that - it can get very messy.

    If you need a simple site I would propose Wordpress.
    If you need a free CMS (content management system), I would propose Joomla.
    There is little that OSCommerce can do that Joomla doesn't do these days.

    Yes correct if oscommerce is used as it is and changes are made in the categories,products list then it is good enough but if you want to customize it,say want to have products follow a different heirarchy,changes in the user authentication or changing the looks then be prepared to deal with a long and complicated code.if you are a programmer par excellence then after few intial hiccups it wont be much of a problem.

    My old oscommerce store was seriously modified (by me) to get it work the way I wanted. I had to install loads of contributions for it to work for my business.

    It was developed years ago, and wasn't developed with styling and themes in mind.

    However, I did manage to get it to the top of Google for my two word keyphrase, with a lot of seo.

    OSCommerce is not as terrible as people play it out to be, eventually. In the beginning if you do not already know the coding, then yes it is a pain to deal with. You can change one small thing and void the whole script. If you are planning to do custom work on it then I highly recommend that you go in and save a default copy of your original site prior to tinkering with it or else you could end up having to purge/remove the entire script and start all over again. If you are looking for something easy, affordable and dependable with no hidden costs and such then check out BuyitSellit. Their script is great!

      I've used OSCommerce for years.

      Theres thousands of specialized coders who work with OSC so I always ask them if I encounter a problem. I say load it up and give it a go - you can find help for anything you need somewhere on the OSC forums (free and paid). I'm sure many WF members here can help with specifics also.

      If you're comfortable with a learning curve you can learn it fairly quickly and become another specialized coder

    Have used OSC and CubeCart, but much prefer using online builders. Plenty of them out there and used volusion, americommerce, to name a couple. Currently using zoovy, thedotspot, and a new program from vendio. Also look at goodbarry - looks pretty slick.

    I used to use OSCommerce until fully programming our new site in custom coldfusion code. It was a very good open source shopping cart and I do in fact recommend it if you can't program from scratch.
