WP installed, but I still sometimes get the parked/hosting page

Hi folks,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this - mods, please go ahead and move it if it's in the wrong place.

I just set up a new Wordpress blog yesterday at www.seonz.org.

It seems to be having a few issues. Sometimes when I type the domain into the address bar, the site comes up fine. Other times, I just get a Bluehost page with ads, as if the domain is still parked.

If I go into the Bluehost cPanel and click on the link there to the domain, it comes up fine. It's just when I try typing the domain into the address bar directly.

Any ideas what's happening here? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

  • Hi Tom,

Tried it on 4 different browsers from this end and it all came up good...perhaps the issue cleared itself up?

    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Clear your browser cache, then flush the dns on your computer.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • The DNS (nameservers) were still propagating, it can take a few hours ... They seem to have done so now, so if you still see the parking page, do as the others have suggested - clear your browser cache (not just cookies) and flush the computer DNS.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Thanks guys. I just tried it again without doing anything and it appears to be working now. Hopefully it stays that way, if not I'll try the suggestions.

    Cheers,

    Tom
  • I had a similiar problem which I had to power down my router to clear its cache.
  • Hey guys,

I've had quite a worrying development here. Everything came fine for a while, but when I was logged into my cPanel earlier I saw something telling me I was under DDOS attack. Now all the sites I have on that account are sporadically coming and going (I'm getting the "Oops!" page from Google. What the heck does this mean? Is someone doing this to me on purpose? What can I do about it?

    Here's what Bluehost says:
    "
Your server is currently under an active DDOS attack.

We apologize for the inconvenience but a dedicated IP cannot be added to your account during an active DDOS attack. Please check back here in a few hours to see if the issue has been resolved. If you have questions, please contact support at (888) 401-4678."

    Cheers,

    Tom

    • Web hosts just get DDOSed sometimes. It's possible but unlikely that you specifically are being targeted; someone is upset at another user who happens to be sharing your web server, or at the hosting company themselves.
    • What they mean to say is "Our Server", not "Your Server". Because I am betting you don't have a VPS or a Dedicated account with them, otherwise you would know A:Why you are being DDoS'd (shouldn't have been trash talking Anon on your blog buddy!) or B:You would have already been switched over to another box until the DDoS was over/permanently.

Since neither of those are the case, that means one of your shared hosting partners (one of the 400 other accounts they shoved onto your box) pissed off someone and is being attacked, and your are paying the price for it. One of the hazards of shared hosting.

The only two ways to fix this is go with your own servers (VPS, Dedicated, Cloud, whatever) or find a shared hosting solution that limits the accounts per box and monitors their clients regularly and thoroughly.
  • Clear your browser cache and try load your site again. That was normal for new instalation, I ever feel like that.
