Joomla/Magento Integration?

Is this a good idea? If so, how can I do this? I've read about Magebridge but it's very expensive.

Magento seems powerful but rather tough to actually get a grip on, especially that I'm rather new at the whole programming thing. I've found this really neat tool called Artisteer that uses Joomla to make some pretty nice sites really easily, and I think that it would be nice to use. The only problem would be integrating a shopping cart and blocks into the design.

I'm installing Joomla at the moment, and I've created a new database for it to use. I'm not sure if they should both be using the same database, but hey, I'm pretty darn new at this stuff and I can't find any hard answer on the net.

What I am aiming for here is a website that is easily and completely customizable that can sell products.

It would be really cool if anyone out there could give me some advice or tips so I can understand more of these things better.

Joomla with Virtuemart is great. Development on the project is picking back up nicely and it works well. Here is a site I built with it that has hundreds of products, shipping quote (custom freight stuff on pallets) and payment integration:

Garage Floor Coating, Industrial Epoxy, Concrete Sealers, Deck Coatings | Versatile Building Products

Use the AceSEF component for SEF URLs, pro version is well worth it and they offer great support.

I agree with Jasong. Joomla and virtuemart is great whether you need a small shop or Online Shopping mall. This component does not limit the number of categories, products, orders or discounts, etc. Furthermore it allows multiple currencies and many different payment gateways. If you want to see the real website, you can go to shophealthnutz dot com.

Magento is a full featured shopping cart, where Joomla is a CMS.
No need to integrate them unless your shopping cart requirements cant be made with Joomla and Virtuemart. To learn how to use Magento you should start to read about it.. While Joomla and Virtuemart is plug and play
