Awesome! Thanks Nochek, I'm going to do some reading about WiredTree. I've been using bluehost for shared hosting on two of my sites but they are really disappointing me here lately. There has been about 3 times in last last couple of weeks when I couldn't connect to my sever for over an hour and my website was down. Totally unacceptable... especially when it goes down right after you go and push a new article on about 10 different social media outlets!

X2 for WiredTree. It depends on what sort of resources your site is going to be using, not necessarily traffic...

Keep in mind that even a "managed" VPS or dedicated server REQUIRES server administration skills. There are still a number of things that need to be configured, monitored, maintained and in some cases troubleshooting.

BlueHost is not a very reputable host, which is why you're probably disappointed. Very oversold servers. Sure, they're on the top 10 list....because of their affiliate payouts.

How does WiredTree compare to HostGator?

Like many of you when I first heard of the idea of container I pictured it as some small lame server that is sold to 12 year olds trying to start hosting companies on the cheap. It had never quite caught my attention until I decided I needed a remote name server and all I needed was enough of a server to run bind, but didn't want to buy a dedicated box just to do that. So I got a container based on Virtuozzo for $80/year and it worked great.
In the process however I started understanding the container concept and it became apparent that this is more than just a tool to create little servers. The way I see it container can replace dedicated servers in many situations in a data center and do a better job than dedicated. You can actually give the customer more horsepower and better hosting than selling them a small dedicated box. (Of course big customers will still need their own server.)
I don't own a data center business myself but I have a friend who does and I colo several servers there. He has several racks of some old Celeron boxes with 512 mgs of ram and one or two 80 gig drives depending on if the customer has any concept of backups, which most of them don't. I'm looking at the racks of Celerons and P4s thinking that each rack could be consolidated into a single modern server and that the customers would actually have a better server than the one they are on now. And the cost saving is tremendous.

I used dedicated servers through 1and1. Their price/performance is better than anything else out there.

Dedicated servers start at $59/month. Their $99/month level is usually the sweet spot that I buy at. They just increased the hardware at that level, and you can get a 4-core server with 3.1 GHZ Intel chips, 12 MB of RAM, and 1TB of Hard drisk space in RAID.

As said before, it does take linux admin skills to maintain and use a dedicated server. So be careful or be prepared to learn on the job.

1and1 gets some backlash for their support. Generally, the complaints are with their shared hosting support which isn't as good. When you have a server, you'll get a special # for server support which has always been helpful with me. (The email support is still too slow to use though. Always call when you need help.)

They did have a major outage last fall, but it was the first of its kind in the years and years I've been using them.

I used to use a smaller hosting company with decent prices and super duper support, but that company got bought by a larger company that blew the transition and had ridiculously bad support. Overnight we went from having the best host to the worst host.

So 1and1 has their problems, but they are a large company with decent support and great prices. Take a look.

Don't get me wrong, she spoke English. Her native accent was just so overpowering that it made it extremely difficult to understand what she was saying. Like she was trying to spell out a url to me and I had to have her repeat it like five times.

I went with the VPS1000... I think thats all I need for the time being.

lol at my posts getting deleted. I was slightly confused at first, but then I understood that good advice isn't always appreciated.
