Need help with WP installation in Host Gator Domain Hosting Account

Hello,

I am stumped as to how to get the wordpress blog, which I automatically installed through Fantastico in the Control Panel, showing up as my default page, when typing http://www.mydomain.com in the browser. The WP blog is in the root folder. Now ordinarily I would just change the index.html file to something like index1.html to deactivate it, and then when I type http://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin.php or http://www.mydomain.com/index.php in the browser I would get the wordpress blog.

However, in Host Gator, their index page is called default.html and so I can rename and that is what I did, but the default nampcheap page they set up for new domains, until you change it, is still showing up, and I don't know how to change that.

So I thought of the Warrior forum first for help! LOL

Regards,
Debbie

Hi Debbie, when did you register the domain? You may need to wait up to 48 hrs or so for the DNS to propagate.

      Hi Rich,

The domain hosting account was just setup today, and you are right, and I completely forgot about that. It may take time for that to happen. Thanks so much for bringing that to my attention.

      Regards,
      Debbie

If you want to view your webpage before your DNS updates, here are some ways...

        • Use a proxy like hidemyass.com
        • Use a VPN.
        • Change your DNS to OpenDNS or Google DNS.

Or easier, update your hosts file. On Windows XP 32bit it is %WINDIR%/system32/drivers/etc/hosts. Don't have anything newer to check for 64bit yet but it should be something similar. In Linux it would be /etc/hosts.
