Need Advice: Google said site did not follow Google's Webmaster Guidelines

We got this message 2 weeks ago. Shall we contact Google for reconsideration or not? Some say we should do that asap, some say we should just leave it.

This is the message we got:

Dear site owner or webmaster of xyz,

We've detected that some of your site's pages may be using techniques that are outside Google's Webmaster Guidelines.

Specifically, look for possibly artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site that could be intended to manipulate PageRank. Examples of unnatural linking could include buying links to pass PageRank or participating in link schemes.

We encourage you to make changes to your site so that it meets our quality guidelines. Once you've made these changes, please submit your site for reconsideration in Google's search results.

If you find unnatural links to your site that you are unable to control or remove, please provide the details in your reconsideration request.

If you have any questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support.

Sincerely,

Google Search Quality Team

Will greatly appreciate any advice or info you can give us.

Thanks..

A blanket letter that tells you nothing and you'll get nothing in return if you ask for specifics of what they found. The burden is yours to correct but if you don't know what to correct how do you correct it? I stopped trying to please the Google gods and just went on about my life.

  • Hello again..

is there any tool I can use to highlight the bad links?
what are the possible solutions to fix these? We used an SEO company for these and they are supposedly really good.

    Any advice out there?

    Thanks

Well here is the issue, a majority of these SEO companies use dirty tactics otherwise known as blackhat seo. The way they went about the SEO for your site was wrong. If you want it fixed, I make some recommendations but it will cost you money to have this done correctly.

Josh is correct. Many SEO tricks can be played to try to up your status in Google but tricks will get you banned from most engines.
