Techy Question - Microsoft Outlook

Hi All,

I have recently purchased a new laptop, and also Office 2007. On my old laptop i had office 2000 and had a couple of my working email address's configured to the Office 2000 outlook.

Now when i have tried to configure my same email add's' to the new outlook 2007 on my new laptop, i cannot receive any message? I can still send from there, just not receiving.

Do i need to delete my old account from outlook 2000 in order to start receiving on Outlook 2007?

Sorry if this sounds confusing (just a refelction of me at the mo:confused::confused:)

    Are you using a POP server or IMAP? If it's a POP server did you set both your old and new account to "leave a copy of messages on server"? If you don't then the message will get downloaded to your Outlook 2000 client and will not be on the mail server for your new client to receive.

    Otherwise I suggest you compare your settings on your new Outlook client to the old one, especially port numbers - some mail providers use non-standard ones.

  • When you're adding the new emails, select the check box at the bottom saying configure manually. This gives the dialog box up with the ability to set all the email params from the old outlook correctly - including pop/imap, email addy, servers (in and out) and server login.
    You can find this from the old outlook by selecting Accounts from the tools menu and then editing the email address you want listed. The first tab and the server tab contain all the info you need.

    Of course if you want to migrate the old emails over then that's a different case and you'll need to do some faffing around to copy them over.

    Can any one guide me that if i don't have a official id an only a Gmail id can i use outlook.:confused:

    • You can use Outlook with your GMail but first you have to enable this in GMail.

      Open your GMail account and go to Settings. Select "Forwarding and POP/IMAP". Select the variety of mail you prefer (POP or IMAP) and enable it. You will also notice a link in each section with configuration instructions for Outlook and other popular email clients.

    It's set up with POP. can I adjust the settings on both accounts now, after the fact? I don't have my old laptop with me at the mo' so i can't check that right now.

      You can adjust the settings "after the fact" but that won't bring back any mail that has already been removed from the server. However you can export the mail from your old outlook client to a PST file and then import it back into your new outlook client.

    Depending on who your email is hosted with, your email / web host might provide a configuration file that you can download and run.

    This will automatically add the email account to Outlook, with the technical details already done for you.
