  • I'm a professional front-end developer, so JavaScript and jQuery are a huge part of what I do. It's a great language, though it has its quirks. It takes some time to accumulate knowledge about. Resources like quirksmode.org and www.crockford.com will go a long way if you really want to understand the language. I usually recommend people start learning the basics before they learn something like jQuery.

    It just used to be a really fast client side scripting language. Now it has a huge amount of libraries for different operations.
    Javascript is not simply being used as client side scripting language anymore. Node.js is collecting fame as a remarkably fast server side scripting platform.

  • Javascript is a client side scripting language. Its strenght is its biggest drawback, as its a client side script you can never be sure that it will run properly. If the user disables javascript then it will not run. Now a days javascript has grown very big with addition of mootools and jquery.

    • Haha, I wish it would make you rich. You can make a good living if you get good at it though, but you need to know a lot of other technologies also. It's true that there are a limited number of (good) developers. I haven't actually applied for a job or contract for a number of years now. Companies actually seek me out and recruit me to work for them. The company I work full time for recruited me, and at least one other good company has attempted to recruit me. I'm good, but not exactly at the top of my field.
