Google Analytics - Not Provided

Wasn't sure where the heck to put this question.

What are people doing to get around the Google Analytics - "Not Provided" issue with respect to keywords. Is there a good tool out there that allows you to find this information?

  • You can get some idea by going to Traffic Sources: Sources: Search: Organic and selecting "landing page" as the secondary dimension.

    That way, you can see what pages (not provided) traffic is landing on and try to infer an approximation of the keywords that way.

    As far as I know, there's no way to find the exact keyword. And I'm not sure that there should be.

    • Now that is totally useful information. I haven't seen that anywhere on the net.

      It really helps me see what my top articles are that are showing "Not Provided". My "Not Provided" is around 20% and now at least I can see where it is going and maybe beef up some of those pages or write a few additional pages on the same subject.

  • I am not sure I understand that new hack yet. I think I need a little time to absorb it. :-) I will give it a go and see what my results are. Love learning all this stuff though. Totally cool.

    • If you get visits from the second page of the SERPs, that means it's probably a good keyword.

      The fact that a few people actually click to the second page and click your link on Google means that a first page ranking, or top 5 ranking, could be a huge traffic generator.

      And the fact that they go to the second page means that some people probably don't find the first ten results relevant. Which means that you may be able to compete with the top ten results.

      It's just a great way to find keywords that deserve some more attention, and perhaps much more optimization.
