Wordpress Theme That Has Editable Category Pages?

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if there was a theme that could let you easily edit the category pages & Sub Categories, as I want a nicely structured site.

So I could have something like Home>Fishing Rods>Shimano Fishing Rod

And the Fishing Rod category would be easily editable, as would the shimano fishing rods, so if I had a longtail word like the model of the shimano fishing rod it would be something like:

Buy Shimano Fishing Rod ST as an example.

Thanks Guys

  • is your main focus to sell products or inform people with content?

    • Inform, comparisons etc.
    • Okay I'll have a look at your site now.

Doesn't look to bad, is it hard to set up?
  • most of WFs veteran wordpress webmasters will probably roll in saying that wordpress is the best solution for you here but I dont think it is.. Im building a site on the prestashop platform and everything you are requiring is available on that platform

handcraftedgiftsnz.com is the site im building and blogging about on WF, it has a comparison option as well but ive disabled it
  • no harder than what a wordpress site would be to setup, they both use a base system with their own plugins, themes etc and theres a whole heap of free plugins available, only downside is if youre looking for a free theme there isnt many around
  • How do you reckon it would go integrating adsense ads into it?
  • theres a module for google adsense, postion the module where you want it in the back office, and then in the module config tab also in your backoffice theres a textbox for copying the code straight from adsense..

Id load it for you so you can see but I dont have an adsense acct linked to that site, a few minutes work at the most

note: a prestashop module is pretty much the same as a wordpress plugin
  • Are you referring to a premium wordpress themes or a free themes?
  • Either I'm not to concerned
  • You can actually do this without a plugin by creating a template file named like this:

    category-name.php

...where the 'name' part matches the category slug (so if you had a category called "Watches" you'd name it category-watches.php).

    • Have you got any steps on how to do this?

  • I don't know if anyone would know the answer to this, but I am lead to believe Thesis has a headline type thing for category pages. So you could add all your content in there using html, but I don't know if you could delete the posts assigned to that category from the bottom.

If that's the case you could have an easily editable category page, just whip up your HTML and you'd be done. Hopefully someone can clarify this for me.
