Best platform for self-hosted video viewing on a website?

Lets say I have 100 HD videos offline on my local PC, and I wanted to create a basic website to show these videos.

And users could simply click "next" or "back" to view the next or previous video. And it shows one video per page, with a 'random' link.

would Wordpress be a good platform for something like this? It sounds simple enough to just manually create a html page, but it might start getting complicated after hundreds of videos are online.

Thanks in advance,

-J

well I used phpmontion but I found from dealing with that community that they sucked the script is encoded and takes for every to load. But it is a good can software. I found phpflavor was not encoded and does hd. I have been working with the developer to make a new version which is almost done. Whats so so cool about this new version you can choose which type of video " divx mp4 avi ect.."and quality you want to convert the video to. Depending on your libs you have installed.

First, you'll need a video player for your website. Checkout Flowplayer or JWPlayer. Both can do what you need. And you can use them on a normal website or on Wordpress... it doesn't matter.

As for where to actually host the videos... I would definitely use a CDN for that, such as Amazon S3. The last thing you want to do is try to host any significant amount of video traffic on a normal server... unless you have a dedicated server and you know how to tweak it specifically for streaming video (not a simple task). So you'll definitely want to look into using a CDN to host your videos.

Also keep in mind that people on slower connections are going to have a hard time viewing HD videos, so depending on who your target market is, you might want to consider using standard def videos instead, and compressing them into FLV format to get the file sizes down as much as possible, so that they will load quicker and play back smoother for your viewers.

Also, it will take you a LOT longer to upload HD videos than it will to upload compressed, standard def videos, obviously. And for 100 videos... even with a really fast connection... that should keep ya busy for a while, lol.

check hotscripts.com search for "youtube clone" that should take care of the front end, as for hosting the video files on your home system, remember your connections UPLOAD speed is what matters hers, the lightning fast download speeds are great for surfing, but your provider usually gives you painfully slow upload speeds!

I wouldn't even consider hosting them yourself for performance reasons. Definitely go for something like amazon s3.

Amazon S3 is great but another "overlooked" part of video hosting that a lot of marketers are now using is the paid for Vimeo Pro hosting. at $199 per year it may not be cheap, but does the job for HD brilliantly
