All these have their own attributes for which they are different from each other.
You need to choose which one you need and what are the features you are looking for.

Based on my experience, PHP fox is the best social network script for you. But you can use another script as your necessary.

Php fox is good but may not be of your choice.
Because when you are choosing from this you always should be concerned about the fact that you will not get all the features you wanted rather some special characteristics of different platforms.

The best seems to be build your own network using mods and the likes.
Quite a few of the items needed for a social network are available as modules for SMF, Phpbb and so forth

Never-mind, as I pass most of the time with WordPress so I feel about buddypress....

You can use buddypres... It is free, well documented and has a big community.... surely you can choose something else if you can not find the exact function while using buddypress but don't forget to search plugins for buddypresss may be everything is ready for you and you can just make your webste in fly with buddypress, who knows?

According to me phpfox is the best one. But the only demerit is that is looks similar to facbook.

It really depends on your requirement and what you want to develop but i think phpfox is one of the best for social network script and its easy to customize too
