Tests are great for letting you know where you need to improve, I already know the php one isnt going to look as shiny for me. keep it in mind like i did for when you're randomly browsing the net

  • It would be awesome, if most of the content on there wasn't outdated and incorrect:

    W3Fools

    • Yup!! I completely agree with you. But still i feel W3schools is good site for a newbie. People just browse the whole site and try to practice the sample codes on their localhost. If they run well its good and if it don't then they will think they have done something wrong. But they wont think that the code itself is wrong.
    • W3Schools is one of the best educational websites for learning web programming, why do you say that It's not good ?

    • It might be outdated but I think it's still good for beginners. W3Schools is where I first learned the basics and I still refer there sometimes when I forget something simple.
    • Ha, i didn't know about this website
I'm just amazed what people come up with

Anyways, i don't think W3S is that bad.
  • W3Schools is pretty good. It's true that they are a little outdated on the technologies, but I think its still good for learning the basics. I wouldn't expect to become a master in what ever code you decide to learn from that site.
  • w3schools is best for newbie,it's outdated for professionals not for beginners.
  • W3schools.com is very useful websites for beginners learning HTML,CSS,PHP,ASP.NET.
  • I have learn more about programming languages, especially for specific applications such as PHP, Java, jQuery, and other programming. It s very useful website for all people.

  • W3schools is one of the best option to learn online languages such as PHP, ASP.NET and others famous languages which are using in a professional career. I also see some times its tutorials when I stick with some points.

    • No. Certification from a random internet site full of half-correct tutorials has little value.

  • I personally recommend w3schools for newbie. Because i learn more from there.
  • w3schools is an awesome site for learning webpage design
I have learned html and css from there.
  • Please avoid W3Schools at all costs. It is outdated, misinformative, and generally leads to bad coding habits in the long-run. I stopped recommending it to people about a year ago - it just doesn't cut it.

  • W3Schools is not bad for start, but as others say, It's outdated
  • As the majority of people have said, it is kinda out of date. However I found when starting out at uni, getting the very basics under my belt, they had really easy to understand examples and guides on how to get the basics up and running.

Definitely a winner if you are starting out and need that initial push but very quickly you can move beyond that and find that you need a site which has something more substantial.
  • Take a look at w3fools.com first before wasting so much time there

    • W3Schools.com is oldest and most popular website for the learning about designing and development. Now W3Fools lists a number of mistakes, inaccuracies and pieces of outdated information in W3Schools' tutorials, especially the HTML and JavaScript tutorials. However it is just helpful for beginners not really for that Professionals.
  • to everyone posting link to W3Fools and saying It's outdated: at least admit that It's good for getting started !
  • I also took the PHP, HTML and CSS tests, I got over 18 correct answers on all of them. They are pretty fun tests and they could help with getting to know at what level you are as a programmer.
  • One of the most outdated but popular sites out there ! Avoid It at all costs, there's always better resources

    • It is outdated and has lots of incorrect info.

It would be better to find something recent.

If you are new wanting to build a cute little hobby site, then it is fine.

You certainly won't learn to build anything substantial like a complex banking website from there.

Excellent site to learn web development.
I love this site so much.
  • w3schools is best used as a simple reference if you know what you are looking for. It covers basic info, but there are times when that is what you need. Things are quick and easy to lookup.

    • W3Schools is a website developer's portal, with tutorials and references relating to web development subjects, including HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, and SQL. W3Schools is free of charge, and is funded through text and display advertising. The tutorials and references on the website and the related code are proprietary. The W3Schools CSS lessons teach beginners to web development about styling their page content. W3Schools also provide free lessons for JavaScript, PHP, SQL and ASP. Additionally, W3Schools offer a range of qualifications that users are able to get. HTML document writing, and then proceeds to give an advanced look at HTML followed by reference charts. It also includes sections that allow the user to "try it yourself" in a split code-page view, and see what each new piece of information changes in the web page, in realtime. Overall, W3Schools is very informative site for learning about designing and development but only for beginners not for professionals.

  • I recently found out about the w3fools.com site and i couldn't agree more. But w3schools.com did help me a lot 6 years ago when i was a beginner. It may still help beginners, but not as much as it did back then.

  • a good source of information for beginners.
  • it is useful for the basic stuff, if you want something more sophisticated done it is a bit out of date. the material that can be found...
  • W3Schools is, in my opinion, the most comprehensive and beginner friendly Tutorial Site, especially when pertaining to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I can't count the number of my Colleagues Web Programmers who started out there. It's certainly where I started, and will keep coming back for sure.
