DNS cache

Dear friends,

I tried to use the ipconfig /flushdns command and also the net stop dnscache and then net start dnscache.

Still on my browser I get the old DNS, before I updated it. When I use a proxy, it goes to the the new DNS.

Any suggestions how to solve this? Yes, I could wait for 24 hours and it will fix automatically. Though if someone has this same problem and fixed it before maybe they will have some insight.

  • Most likely it's your local ISP caching the old DNS.

    • Ditto to Kingfish85's suggestion. Local ISP cache the DNS results for anyone from 2 hours up to 48 hours. It is possible to call them and ask them to flush their dns cache (had a customer do that successfully once anyway).

      But it's important to note that would only effect customers on your exact IP address within your service node. So it's best to just wait it out.

      In the mean time if you're just trying to do a quick test and make sure the site is looking okay try a proxy browser such as: Hide My Ass! Free Proxy and Privacy Tools - Surf The Web Anonymously
      This will access your site from a different ISP than your own and let you see what other people are seeing.
  • My favourite way is to change DNS server to opendns.com

    IP address are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
