Website is really slow

Hi!

I recently bought a new website on WF and that guy did all the setup of it. That guy run off but I have a problem what's bothering me: website speed! It takes up to 5-6 seconds (if not longer). It's even slow in the admin part of wordpress so not only the website itself. It's hosted at godaddy and I got a few plugins like tubepress, wp policies, wp super cache, xml-sitemap, share and follow, authority links maximizer, reviewazon pro and the theme is thesis 1.8.4.

Any idea or if you think you can fix it let me know and I will send you the link.

Thanks!

  • Try adding these:

    Use Google Libraries
Allows your site to use common javascript libraries from Google's AJAX Libraries CDN, rather than from WordPress's own copies.

    WP-Optimize
This plugin helps you to keep your database clean by removing post revisions and spams in a blaze. allows you to rename your admin name also. Additionally it allows you to run optimize command on your wordpress core tables (use with caution).

    WP Smush.it
Reduce image file sizes and improve performance using the Smush.it API within WordPress.

Also. Delete any plugins you are not using.

This has nothing to do with speed but I would also recommend you use wordpress SEO by Yoast. I used to use the all in one SEO and worked great but this one has so many better features and since using it my sites has got a lot more traffic.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I installed those plug ins but according to WebPagetest .org my page is even slower although the wordpress panel seems to be a bit faster but not great. Could it be godaddy or the theme thesis?

I just see at the new google pagespeed ihsights tool it might got something to do with thumb.php ... ? Any idea?

    • Disable all plugins first, then run a bare Wordpress site. Also, try switching the theme to the default. If it just loads and loads without anything running on it, sounds like a choked sql server.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Even with all the plugins disabled (besides contact form or so) it's still running slow. I also tried the theme twenty eleven but no improvements. I try to contact godaddy about this...

    Thanks for helping!

    • With everything disabled & running the default theme, there shouldn't be any lag. Most certainly sounds like a sql/hosting issue. Would you mind PM'ing me the domain?

    • Have you heard of Cloudflare? Try out the free service, my website has definitely increased in load times.

  • It may not all be down to your site. Have you had a reply back from godaddy yet?

My site was acting up a bit, so I installed 'P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler)' to see if it was because of any of my plugins. But everything seemed ok so I sent them a message letting them know and they said that they where having problems and every thing should hopefully be fixed soon (they couldn't say when though).

  • Hi pm me, maybe I can help you. Do you have shell access to your hosting?
  • Pls check the warring and errors through firebug consloe and try to removes these waring and bugs
  • If no plugin is enable and running standard theme, it's your hosting issue.
  • same issue for my website.

our web hosting company find some redirect code in my website that why loading time more. please cross check with your web-hosting.

may be some bad code inside .
  • When I was in your situation a few years ago, I took my slow site to my to the cloud, via Rackspace, and built my own dedicated server. It cost about 40 bucks a month, and took 2 months to grok a few concepts... but it was worth it. I was able to install APC -- a godsend--and it sped up the page load times to less than 1 second.

Wordpress, like the rest of the CMS's out there, use a tremendous amount of resources to display a single page. If you are on a shared server, it will allocate only a certain amount of resources to run the script. There is no way around this, and VPS's are much much worse-- been there, done that. If you are on a tight budget and keep it on a shared server, the best you can do is install yet another plugin called WP Super Cache, enable it, and hope for the best.
  • You can try clearing the cache. There is a plugin that speeds up your wordpress site also. Cant recall the name. A simple google search would be sufficient.
  • yep, use cloudflare as said it hosts a few things on it and speeds us the loading process of few elements such as images, etc

also there might be problem with your current hosting porvider...

  • for WordPress users, I think the plugin: "W3 Total Cache" is very nice and I'm using it on my website at moment...
  • could you please post your Url because without seeing your website i don't thinks so anyone can tell you exactly what you do..?
  • use cloudflare.com
  • Have you tried MaxCDN or cloudflare both services will surely double your site loading speed
  • I think it is a plugin issue.

Deactivate all plugins and see if your website starts loading faster.
    if no -----> hosting issue.
if yes try activating plugins one by one and test the site speed again.
That way you'll find what plugin is causing the slowness.
  • i deactivated all the plugins but not that much of a change.

ive been told to use Cloudflare which i did and after a couple days my load time went back from 6-12 sec to 2,5 sec.

  • You may want to check with your hosting provider with this matter.
