Great mobile app idea

It's a pretty simple idea, but I'd like to know the best place to learn how to build mobile apps. Any ideas here would be a great help.

I was told to post this question here, so it's not a duplicate.

LWell the reason I don't want to do that is mainly because it's all over the place. There's no one best way to learn on Youtube. I was hoping someone knew of a site that pulls it all together conceptually; the knowledge that is. I'm great with concepts.

There are many platforms. You need to know for which phone the people will use the app the most. If you want that it supports all phones then you need to learn all API's available (e.g. Android).

Is there a place where I can learn all the API's? or at least droid and iOS?

Have a look at MobileTuts - Mobiletuts+ | iPhone, Android, Windows and BlackBerry mobile development tutorials. they have a great library of tutorials from which you could easily pick up some skills.

  • Hello there,

Look up some local "application development" courses. You'll find a lot of mixed information online.

The best way would be to google for some tutorials available online. It would be very helpful. You can also find many videos on youtube illustrating how to build a mobile app. Try to practice it more and more on your own.

I'll just try to consolidate what everyone is telling you already. Android and IOS are two different animals.

You need Java skills for Android and...
    Objective C for IOS.
Unless you are extremely driven, you aren't going to be able to pull off both at one time (learning that is). That said, if your idea fits within certain criteria, you could use a RAD or Rapid Application Development platform to build your app in the language of your choice. Google around for dragonrad or rhodes mobile and you'll see what I'm talking about.

These are tool sets that allow you to develop in say, Ruby or C or some other language and compile using their software into the correct code for the various devices. The drawbacks are that usually these companies hook in to your data and charge your for queries or charge based on number of download/activations etc. It been a while since I looked so you'll have to do some home work but at least there are options.

The point I forgot was - these companies teach you all you need to know about programming for their platforms without having to get specific about the big 3. (Android, IOS and BB)

I don't know if it's any good but one friend who work in china in a company doing mobile apps sent me this:
Mobile App Development Platform | Sencha Touch | Products | Sencha
But I don't feel like jumping on it right now.. I have another goal to reach first using traditional sites..
    The docs/tutorials: http://docs.sencha.com/touch/2-0/

I know some guys here in Philly creating drag-n-drop software to make iPhone apps. The product is still in beta, but just send them an email and they'll let you use it. You can find it at Appliqué Their email is nikita at that website.

If you're going for Apple, you will have to get XCode. It's not that hard building an App with the graphic interface that is provided in the software. You will have to learn a little programing though.

If you're looking for a game, it gets much more complicated than that. You would need a team of people and much more time to develop.
